    Supervise spacecraft & gateway stations’ O&M teams in daily operations ensuring that operational & preventive maintenance procedures are correctly followed. Monitors, controls & configures Unix- based W/Ss in Advanced Operations Center (AOC), Gateway Station (GS) operations & maintenance center (GSOMC) and NT based W/Ss in Spacecraft Operations Center (SOC) of the overall network to ensure uninterrupted services (voice & packet) to Thuraya subscribers.

    Prepare weekly & monthly system reports such as KPI report for management review.

    Responsibilities in Spacecraft operations center (SOC):

    Conduct scheduled spacecraft maintenance activities i.e. station keeping (SKM), momentum dump (JDS), spacecraft’s thrusters flushing (JTC). Eclipse season Procs enabling & various other Procs.

    Monitor, control & configure various NT-based platforms within SOC i.e. SPCP for payload control, SCS for BUS /Flight dynamics subsystem (FDS) and Kalman filter platforms for orbital analysis & spacecraft’s ephemeris data.

    Monitor essential parameters of the spacecraft (LRVs) & debug following provided procedures, note down the daily RF measurements for ground earth station equipment, conducting manual ranging for the spacecraft.

    Support RFT team for scheduled maintenance & during contingency following provided procedures. Analyzing paths using oscilloscope/spectrum analyzer & calibrating for optimizing the attenuation levels of different paths.

    Responsibilities in Ground station center (GSOMC/AOC):

    Problem recovery for all available circuits in all gateways following available procedures. Analyzing the statistics of satellite resources usage, airtime usage records (AURs) and major alarms.

    Configuring the changes requested by optimization/cell planning teams in required databases at NOC, GS-OMC & packet OMC server systems i.e. changing configuration at L-Band's frequency slots (FSs) assigned to a beam, configuring a beam's bcch & other CChs at carrier level of a FS, configuring TOD plans for all beams over a year covering all major occasions after analyzing each beam's resources' utilization, traffic volume, success rate, block calls, drop calls & average idle TSs aggregations.

    Running OTA on online databases for analysis from time to time as per the network resources update requirements and also as per the call blockage data collected for all beams in the network, thereby updating the online DB in case of a minor change/s or copying a new database for major change/s, followed by putting the new DB online at the lowest traffic instant of the day.

    Coordinate with other depts. i.e. NSS, INVAS, System Eng. and Product & Development regarding degradations & requests at their ends. Attend Customer care dept.’s complaints related to subscribers’ voice & packet (IP/DSL/Gmprs) issues on Salesforce portal & solving them within prescribed time.

    Support the product & development team in providing/analyzing the needed input data used for   improving the performance aggregations for the upcoming products, applications & patches.          

    Utilizing BI & ERM applications & rectifying related minor issues in coordination with the IT dept.

    Support investigating and fixing system problems using provided needed data, GS/AOC testing on the Reference Test bed (RTB) & in field e.g. new services, applications & product testing.

    Prepare WAs in coordination with the vendor support, as per the operational requirements needed for fault recovery.

    During my 2+ years stay at OMC-R, I came across logical handling i.e. database configuration related to the performance & commissioning of radio part of a GSM network. I was in the NOC data configuration team (configuring Motorola & Alcatel based cell sites & BSCs) where my major responsibilities included:

    Level-2 support to field engineers related to logical configuration of sites & BSCs, often resolving a problem by re-configuring some parameters or the whole logical database of a site/BSC at OMCR.

    Creation & linkage of a BSC to the OMC-R Server/Agent by configuring X25/IP addresses at Tier-2 router’s TSs & their linkage to Tier-1 (omc-r) router's TSs, making up NUCs (Nail up connections) via uncompressed CICs-TSs (if via ATM) between intra/inter MSCs.

    Performed major OMCR night activities i.e. Cutover & Migration of BSCs, RXCDR swapping, re-parenting of sites, E1-abis shifting, Optimization related WOs, LAC/CI change of cells/BSCs, CIC testing/No Audio of aters, Edge implementation at cell & BSC levels, GPRS shifting of Alcatel BSC, GB parameters & RAC change (activity related to GPRS shifting of a BSC), Motorola NEs’ software upgrades, AMR project, logical deletion/creation of cells & add/del of int/ext neis to omcr-cells, etc.

    WOs implementation related to different depts. i.e. RF optimization (i.e. radio link related parameters' modify/change at cell/BSC levels, frequencies & neighbors change). Deployment (i.e. sites/BSC equipages, CO downloads for new & live NEs, Sites’ RF expansions, Sites’ splitting, alarms equipages for sites & BSCs, daising-chaining a live direct site & reversely). BSS planning (ater/signaling links add/del. at BSC & RXCDR ends, nailing at RXCDR end & HR/FR enabling on radios). QoS for monitoring & analyzing the counters/indicators (KPIs) of the Alcatel/Motorola BSS system related to the performance of the network i.e. zero calls, zero terminating calls, DCR, CSSR, HSR, etc.

    Worked on Orascom’s newly employed automated alarm reporting & escalating system TEMIP, designed by Hewlett-Packard mainly for creating a vendor independent monitoring/escalating platform in a multivendor NOC.

    Configuration & troubleshooting of Alcatel/Motorola GPRS entities at BSC-ater, MFS-Gpu card/PCU, Frame Relay-DLCI, ATM-VCI/VPI & SGSN-NSVC levels.

    Worked in NOC-QoS; a newly created sub-section in our NOC. The notion behind its creation was   to monitor, analyze & act on the affected KPIs well before their escalation by Optimization/BSS planning & other depts. Developed WAs/SOPs with other team members during the preliminary stages of this new sub-dept. as i did receive prior foreign training on this relevance.

    Managing Alcatel's OMCR administrative issues in Sun Solaris i.e. handling of accounts & no. of users per server or agent, scripts making, admin & root-level configurations. Preparation of daily/monthly system reports such as KPI monthly report for management review.
