Date of birth: 19th February, 1987
Recent PhD graduate in Astrophysics, highly experienced in data analysis and interpretation with practical knowledge of from-scratch modelling and programming.
Problem Solving and Critical Thinking:
highly critical thinker with effective researching skills developed during five years as a researcher in Astrophysics. Strong ability in defining problems, analyse data and interpret them with the use of mathematical models and statistical approaches proficient in forming and defending independent conclusions
Project Management and Leadership:
successfully plan and manage projects from beginning to end excellent leadership qualities proven through work on various projects, resulting in high quality scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals
maintain flexibility and adapting plans in the face of changing circumstances
conduct meetings and impose deadlines to the project team and a realistic timeline for completion
Programming languages: Fortran, IDL, C / C++, LATEX, Python
Parallel computing: MPI
Numerical codes: developed at least two large (5000+ lines) codes for Astrophysics
Applications: Keynote, Office products and Astronomy-related applications
Platforms: MAC, Linux, Windows
Written and Oral Communication:
proven excellent skills in organising and presenting logically-written conclusions at all levels
— brief abstract to book-length manuscript
confident and professional communication skills to effectively present ideas in oral presentations to small and large (150+ people) groups
strong outreach communication skills developed giving seminars in schools and guiding tours of the Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri (Firenze, Italy)
excellent teaching skills developed during three years as graduate teaching assistant at the Université Paris Sud (Orsay, France)
2015 - now Postdoctoral researcher, Institut d’Astrophysique Spatiale (Orsay, France)
Conducting three projects and involved in other two projects which are leading to excellent results published in top-rated journals. Also, opening external collaborations, I found new strategies for a better understanding of observational data. I am part of the core team for the European project DustPedia (dustpedia.com) and succeeding in developing the dust model which will be used by the whole collaboration. Ad hoc reviewer for the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society (MNRAS) journal.
2015 Postdoctoral researcher, Osservatorio Astrofisico di Arcetri (Florence, Italy)
Opened a new collaboration with top-level researchers in Arcetri and Rome and led two scientific projects. By carefully planning the projects and setting monthly deadlines we achieved the outstanding result of publishing two scientific papers in Astronomy & Astrophysics in less than one year. Also, I developed one large (5000+ lines) Fortran code, which is relevant for my research team, completely renovating the older version.
2011 - 2014 Doctoral research experience, Institut d’Astrophysique Spatiale (Orsay, France)
Project title: “Modelling Dust Processing and Evolution in Extreme Environments as seen by Herschel Space Observatory".
During my PhD I also:
developed Fortran, C++ and IDL codes relevant for my research team and community,
presented my work in three seminars and nine talks in international conferences,
published ten research papers (five of them as first author) in top-rated journals,
taught Astrophysics and Numerical Methods (Fortran) courses ( 200 hours) at the Université Paris-Sud.
2011 Internship, Institut d’Astrophysique Spatiale (Orsay, France)
Working on high-redshift galaxies to retrieve gas morphology and dynamics.
2009 Internship, Universitá degli studi di Genova (Genova, Italy)
Reconstruction of the path of particles inside the ATLAS detector, C++ and ROOT coding.
2010-2011 Master 2 Nuclear, Particle, Astroparticle and Cosmology (NPAC) with specialisation in Cosmology at Université Paris-Sud (Orsay, France) - magna cum laude
2009-2010 Master 1 Theoretical Physics at Università degli studi di Genova (Genova, Italy)
2006-2009 Bachelor’s Degree Physics at Università degli studi di Genova (Genova, Italy) - summa cum laude
Mountaineering and trail running are my passion. These activities require decision making and teamwork as well as adaptation to severe conditions. I also enjoy photography as an amateur.
