    Work experience
Ph.D. in experimental physics: Ultrafast laser physics and precision metrology in the deep ultraviolet
Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM)
VU University Amsterdam, department of physics; Atoms, Molecules and Lasers

Doctoral advisors: Prof. Dr. K.S.E. Eikema and Prof. Dr. W. Ubachs

The aim of the research group is to perform high-precision spectroscopic experiments of simple atomic and molecular systems to test fundamental theories of quantum mechanics. The most interesting experiments require deep ultraviolet and extreme ultraviolet radiation for which no (narrowband) laser sources exist. As part of a small group of international researches I have helped developed a unique laser system and spectroscopic method to study this type of atomic and molecular resonances with an accuracy  of ten parts-per-trillion. To accomplish these world leading results a combination of several advanced experimental techniques was combined such as frequency-comb lasers,  ultra-stable lasers, high-power lasers, non-linear frequency conversion and ultra-high vacuum techniques.  My responsibilities as a Ph.D. researcher included designing and building parts of the optical setup and the development of software to precisely control, monitor and acquire data from the experimental setup. In addition I was responsible for the data analysis and interpretation which has resulted in the publication in scientific journals such as Physical Review Letters.  Apart from my duties as a scientist I have guided and mentored bachelor and master student projects in our lab and worked as a assistant in the laboratory course and academic skills course.

    Published work:
High-precision Ramsey-comb spectroscopy at deep ultraviolet wavelengths, Physical Review Letters,117(2016)
    High-accuracy deep-UV Ramsey-comb spectroscopy in krypton, Applied Physics B, 123(2017)

    Teacher assistant
    University of Amsterdam
As a master student I worked as a teacher assistant for the laboratory course where I was responsible for guiding students through various experiments and monitoring their progress and make an assessment of their experimental skills. This course was given in combination with the academic skills course, which included writing scientific reports and giving presentations.

    Study group tutor
    University of Amsterdam

In the final stages of my bachelor I helped students prepare for the exams of the courses of Calculus and Linear Algebra.

    Personal interests
My biggest interests are sports and travel. If possible I combine these which has resulted in bike trips across Europe and the United States. I have visited Australia for seven month’s to go surfing and due to my Austrian descend have enjoyed many winters in the Alps.
