Was awarded a Carnegie Scholarship to undertake research as part of the Picard team within the space applications department of my university. This was a unique and unrivalled opportunity to work in a small team alongside world-class engineers, in a high-pressure environment where quality of work cannot be compromised.
AMASP-1, 5th year group Master’s Project
Design and Development of a pneumatically operated, hanging Stewart Platform to be used as a flight simulator. Invaluable experience of dealing with a client, where the technological and economic satisfaction of the host university were of paramount throughout the full project. Was nominated to lead on the early design and concept generation stages.
Prototype rigidisable inflatable space antenna. Heavily involved in preliminary testing and main role was to determine, through both CAD testing and numerical analysis, what pressure inside the inflatable would cause the composite material to rigidise through strain hardening. Project was in association with ESA and many other organisations and was launched and successfully tested in March 2016.
4th year individual Bachelor’s Project
Development of a Universal Power, Data and Mechanical Connection System for CubeSat-style Nano-satellites. Designed a unique method of mechanical connection through use of Electrostatic force, proving that it would survive harsh launch conditions and work in Low Earth Orbit. Awarded with a distinction pass.
