    Work experience
    ▪ 2011-2016: I worked as a researcher in Radio Frequency Identification technologies (RFID) in the CIMITEC research group at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. During this period I managed the development of ad-hoc antenna designs for RFID tags operating in challenging conditions, as for example in close proximity to metal or metallic objects, exploring the use of structures and concepts related to the world of metamaterials. I derived new analytical expressions for the radiation properties of several electrically small resonators (e.g. the split-ring resonator, or SRR), which were applied to obtain novel and competitive RFID devices. Among the most important results, an original strategy for tagging optical discs (e.g., DVDs, Blu-ray discs) allowed a 1 order of magnitude improvement over the commercially available solutions, and generated a patent. The achievements, disserted in international journals and conferences, also include an innovative impedance matching strategy for RFID tags which simplifies the design task and allows
    better understanding of the physical limitations in terms of bandwidth. As a tool for antenna design, I used full-wave simulation software on a daily basis, mainly CST Microwave Studio and Advanced Design System.
    The research group, composed of people from different countries, cooperates with several companies and research centers, which keeps me constantly goal-oriented and improved my communication and team-working skills.

    ▪ 2008-2011: I worked as a member of the electronic design team for the projects PERSONA ( and NOMS ( ) funded by the European commission. My tasks here were oriented at designing PCB boards for sensor conditioning and actuator control for home automation and assistive technology applications. I cooperated through the whole process of PCB design, including components choice and purchase, microcontroller
    programming, schematic design, routing and hardware testing. The large number of research entities from several European countries contributed to create a multicultural environment, which enriched my communication and collaboration skills, and promoted the exchange of ideas and concepts from different disciplines.
