    Alex Dale has had over 6 years experience working at ESOC in both spacecraft operations and ground station operations. He has a deep appreciation for the procedure driven operations environment and the need for high accuracy and focus in ‘on console’ operations. He has also had experience working with engineers configuring and designing satellite communication solutions in industry. Alex has a passion for Astronomy and space related scientific projects and a determination to learn about the various projects he is currently working on as well as others around ESOC. As part of his continued professional development Alex is working towards a MSc in Astrophysics. And has begun projects including learning to use various programming languages to map the radiation environment around Earth using spacecraft data. In his spare time Alex also likes to work with mini computing systems to do some basic electronic engineering and programming.

    The job encompassed commanding and monitoring the ESTRACK ground stations as well as the network of communication systems between the control centre and the satellites. The role involved following pre-set procedures to ensure the timely receipt and sending of spacecraft data. Alex also found his physics background useful in quickly trouble shooting issues in real time.
