Systems Engineer - Serco (Space & Defence) - 2014 till present
I work as part of a highly skilled engineering team, operating a diverse range of networked communications equipment. My industry qualifications, along with 8 years operational work experience, allow me to take a lead within the team as we work to maximise system performance, and respond effectively to software, hardware and network anomalies. Highlights of my work include; writing and lecturing advanced engineering courses, mentoring junior staff, producing software products in a number of languages and travelling abroad in support of various projects.
Spacecraft Controller - Serco (U.K. & Europe) - 2011 through 2014
On shift I was trained to lead the SKYNET spacecraft operations crew while in control of eight geosynchronous spacecraft and multiple ground stations. This dynamic environment honed my skills in clear decision making by prioritising competing demands, remaining calm and focused during time critical situations and the importance of advance planning and checking to mitigate errors. Operational efficiency projects included; re-programming procedures and tools in JAVA and VBA, integrating new software and hardware into the baseline, re-writing engineering training courses, leading spacecraft recoveries and working with the SKYNET 5D LEOP (launch and early operations) team.
Spacecraft Operations Engineer (Orbit Analyst) - Vega Space Ltd - 2010 & 2011
I joined the team and built an orbit propagator in MATLAB to complete my Masters, in parallel with extensive training as a spacecraft operations engineer. My core duties involved managing ranging, orbit determination, building ephemeris and performing calculations required for all space operations activities. I was constantly trending, analysing and reporting on the spacecraft fleet while adapting to spacecraft life-cycle changes and tackling challenging anomalies. This involved the communication of complex technical problems, principles and solutions to various customers and working on-call 24/7.
