I am a radio astronomer with two years Postdoctoral research experience working with the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio telescope project (focusing on image data analysis). This is an international collaboration for the world’s largest radio telescope. I have acquired broad and extensive knowledge in the telescope theory (i.e. Aperture Synthesis) and image data analysis methods and techniques, specifically in statistics, noise modelling and information extraction. I have also gained significant experience in several programming languages and high performance computation. My research involved creating new statistic method to solve new and complex problems that have to be mitigated in order to realize the specific scientific goals.
Extract as much as possible information with “sensor fusion” (combined radio image with optical/infrared galaxies image) (C, FFT and python)
Radio telescope measurements usually contaminated by the neighborhood due to its large Point Spread Function. We have derived a model for this contamination (i.e. confusion noise).
The combination of other wavelength telescope allowed us better localize specific galaxy populations. With the help optical/infrared telescope and our model of confusion noise, we reconstructed the underlying galaxy intensity distribution with no bias.
Designed and implemented the method in C code with help of FFTW, and created simulated data to test the pipeline.
Calculate galaxy correlation from 1,000,000 observed galaxies (MPI parallelization C++)
Carefully checked observed images and located the image defects with statistical methods.
Created several mock catalogues for comparison and for uncertainty reduction.
Designed and implemented pipeline to measure galaxy density correlation with high performance parallel computation.
Designed and implemented a fast algorithm for gesture recognition with Kinect(C#)
Designed a fast real-time algorithm to recognize “palm” and “fist” with Kinect.
Improved the “fist” state recognition performance to adapt hand moving situations.
Tested and fine tuning the algorithm in different light environments and distances.
Programed Markov Chain Monte Carlo(MCMC) sampling (C/C++, MPI)
Motion estimation of our solar system(C/C++, Healpix, IDL)
Investigated temperature fluctuation (CMB) image: measured the morphological properties and tested whether the temperature fluctuation following Gaussian distribution (Matlab).
Programming Languages: C/C++, Matlab
Relevant Skills: Data analysis/modelling, pipelining, High Performance Computing with MPI, statistical inference, scientific writing,
Relevant Course: Algorithm Analysis and Design.
