Title: Sales and Market Development Head (Africa)
SES is an industry leading satellite solutions provider, with a fleet of over 55 GEO satellites in orbit covering 99% of the planet. SES is also the majority shareholder of MEO satellite service provider - O3b. I am responsible for Sales and Market Development in Africa primarily in the Video industry. With my background in telecoms, there is strong focus on Video solutions for the telecoms industry - this involved working with SES video team to tailor solutions for telcos. One of my largest projects was securing for SES the delivery of content for Cell C’s “Black” platform. In addition, I focus on the strategic direction that SES considers for broadcasters, governments and other relevant players in the industry.
Reason for Leaving
SES decided to relocate the Africa HQ from South Africa to Nigeria. I was offered an expat package, but being recently married and with family/personal interests in South Africa, I decided not to relocate. I also decided to pursue a dream of mine to travel in Bali, Thailand and India.

Responsible for helping clients achieve their business objectives within the Strategy and Operations Advisory practice of PwC. The primary focus is on telecommunications and financial services clients within Africa. Client focus areas were on asset management: ensuring that there is a consistent view of assets across the business (financial and network/operations), accurate Capex costing (network elements/base-stations), best practice asset valuation models and capitalization processes, accurate Fixed Asset Registers (FAR’s) which reflect asset movements in the network.

Reason for Leaving
The natural progression for me at PwC would be Partnership. It became increasingly clear to me that once I became Partner, I would spend the rest of my career in the Advisory consulting space. While I learned immensely at PwC, I was not fulfilled with the consulting work I was doing, and decided that I needed to make a career change sooner rather than later to a position that more directly aligned to my passion and made an impact on people’s lives – specifically telecommunications in Africa.

Title: Business Development Executive
Responsible for Business Development on Mobile Financial Solutions in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) for Fundamo. Fundamo was a 100% VISA acquired company that specialised in mobile wallets and interoperable financial solutions linked to mobile wallets. Business Development activities were pursued with banks and telcos on CAPEX/OPEX solutions for emerging markets in SSA. Responsibilities included client engagements, presentations and roadshows, marketing activities (e.g. AfricaCom and MWC), internal reporting, managing targets and budgets as well as coordinating internal approval processes for proposals.
In order to effectively plan overall resource allocation for the upcoming financial year, a strategic analysis was done on which countries in SSA to target. The analysis considered: country population, addressable market, competitive landscape, strategic entries, current footprint and existing relationships. From the analysis, a top 10 country list was finalised together with the target clients in each country.
