    IV&V System Engineer at EUMETSAT

    I join the EUMETSAT Polar System-Second Generation program (EPS-SG) as a System V&V Engineer. The main duties are:


    Analysis of VCDs both at System (System Requirement Document) and subsystem levels (from contractors): congruency of verification methods, levels and stages (CDR, QR, SIOV,Cal/Val etc.), proper identification of evidences for requirements with all verification methods.

    DOORS. Maintenance of different VCMs into doors, preparation and editing of proper external files to import (e.g. excel files).

    Monitoring the trend of requirements verification and lead proper Verification Control Board when needed.

    Test Scenarios and Test Specification definition for System Requirements, starting from different sections of the System Requirements Document (functional requirements, performances requirements, etc.).

    Test tool and Test data analysis for data circulation. The activity aimed to retrieve a valid data set to feed the system during test campaign: both trough a reference output data or through test tool.

    Procurement of test data identified in the Test Specifications, including the analysis of received deliverables and attendingacceptance tests.

    Review of IV&V documentation such as OGS and System Integration, Verification and Validation plan (OSIVV), LEOP Guideline for Requirements and VCD Management, PDAP VCD. I took part also to reviews activities over different milestones like CDRs.

    Participating in the meetings with partners for subsystem's CDR, internal meeting as V&V Checkpoint.

    01/02/2016 - 31/12/2017  -  GÖKTÜRK for Telespazio.

    Goktürk is a Turkish optical satellite developed by a joint venture between Telespazio S.p.A. and Thales Alenia Space France having Turkish Air Force (TurAF) as final user and Turkish Defense Ministry as customer.

    The program is composed by two segment: Satellite segment and Ground segment. In the frame of Ground Segment the following roles have been covered as:

    Ground AIV resource during the integration activities in order to integrate the processing framework (i.e. Phoebus framework supplied by Thales Services), used for the generation of satellite products starting from L0 up to L2 products (Intrument Processing System IPS), together with all the others facilities belonging to Gokturk User Service Sub-system (also called USS) and provided by different suppliers.

    Support to USS sub-system, Ground and System verification activities, to verify in front of the customer and the end user the entire Gokturk System. The activities, in which I was mainly involved was relevant to verification of IPS (Thales Services facility) functionalities integrated in the USS, Ground and System verification activities.

    Support to Operation activities as first level engineer analysis, in order to analyse encountered problems and address supplier correctly for its resolution. Coordination of contingency activities for IPS facility in case of encountered problems.

    Planning and coordinating maintenance operations during the first year of activity of the satellite. Installation of patches and upgrades from the supplier, execution of no-regression tests and verification of the upgrades.

    Support to operation planning, together with OPS-PREP team.  Coordination between TurAF image acquisitions and IVV purpose image acquisitions. 

    Reporting to the customer about Ground issue encountered during operations and explanation of the procedures adopted to recover the situation. 

    ARB supporting activity in case of anomalies that effect the ground segment.

    TRR and TRB preparation in coordination with the system team, with graphical representation of the objective foreseen before a test and then the results achieved. TRR and TRB was usually conducted in front of the representative for the Turkish Defense Ministry.

    Test tool and Test data development activities. In this context also a monitoring tool has been developed for the monitoring of a specific issue (IPS freezing). This tool has been developed in bash language.

    All the activities took place to the Ground Segment site in Ankara (Turkey) at TURAF premises.



    01/06/2014 - 31/01/2016  -  CSG (COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation) for Telespazio

    The second generation of COSMO SkyMed satellites aims at improving the quality of the imaging service, providing end users with advanced features in terms of the highest number of images and the highest quality (in terms of spatial and radiometric resolution and in terms of swath).
    As part of the CSG project I took part in the various activities related to engineering, integration and testing of the three subsystems that Sistematica provided to Telespazio: 

    S-PM (Second Generation Production Manager) .This subsystem manages and controls the production of end products (from L0 to High-level products), their cataloging, archiving and distribution to end users.

    OSM (Overall Status Manager). This subsystem manages the monitoring and control of all resources in the mission Ground Segment: at the level of software applications and basic resources of each host. For this project I have run the writing of test procedures and their execution at the customer.

    CM (Communication Manager). This subsystem manages communication between software applications belonging to the various subsystems. For this project I have run the writing of test procedures and their execution at the customer.

    The activity carried out mainly involved AIV activities and can be summarize as follow:

    Generation and maintenance of AIV documents: test cases, test procedures and test report, user manual and operator manuals, discussion and implementation of RID's opened by the customer.

    Installation and verification of the subsystem and patches at Telespazio premise. No regression test were also executed after any new installation

    Execution of test procedures at Telespazio premise, with related generation of test report.

    Support for test tool and test data development for the provided subsystems to the customer.

    Review of the documents in cooperation with the customer, discussioning and implementing or RID's.  



    01/01/2014 - 01-06-2014  -  DRRS project

    DRRS (Digitized Remote RFID Shelters) is a research project aimed at creating an environment monitoring environmental conditions​(temperature, brightness, temperature) and techniques conditions​​ (voltage, current and power used) within a military shelter. Measurements within the shelter are acquired directly from the devices through RFID tags. The collected data is stored in a local database and then transferred through a dedicated channel to a central database. From here the SCADA system proceeds to display the information collected through the use of synoptics.
    My activity within the project were:

    SCADA System.  Manage, configure and install the SCADA system used to monitor the environmental conditions detected within the military shelter.

    Synoptic draw. By the software of Microsoft Visio I was in charge to draw the synoptic of the environment to be monitored. 

    System requirement definition. Together with the technical activity I managed the production of the system requirements

    Test procedure.  Writing and execution of test procedure in order to verify the fulfillment of the system requirements.



    01/06/2013 - 31/12/2013  -  Project KOMPSat5 for Thales Alenia Space

    KOMPSat5 is part of the Korean Development Plan of the MEST (Ministry of Education, Science and Technology) started in 2005. The project was developed and managed by KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). The main objective of this mission is to develop, launch and manage a SAR satellite for Earth observation. in degrees to provide images for geographic information applications and to monitor environmental disasters.
    After a training period held in Terni and in Thales Alenia Space Italy premises, the activity in this project was carried out at the headquarters of KARI in Daejeon (South Korea) for the period September-December 2013, following the launch of the satellite. The main duties were:

    Production Manager operator. That was the subsystem, developed by Sistematica, used for the production, storage and cataloguing of satellite images.

    Reporter for the supplier. I was the only referent for Sistematica on the customer site,I was in charge to produce regularly a report on any subordinate system issues.

    TRR and TRB preparation in coordination with the system team. I was the only responsible for the subsystem in charge of monitoring and control the different processors (from L0 to L2) and to manage the delivery of the final products.

    Production manager maintainer. As only referent for Sistematica, I were in charge or install and verify patches and updates of the Production Manager subsystem.  

    Interface with the customer. During routine meeting at the KARI, I was in charge to generate reports for the customer detailing the status of the subsystems (number of successfully processed images, number of failed processing, patch installation report, updates reports etc.).

    All the activities took place to the Ground Segment site in Daejeon (South Korea) at KARI premises. 

    01/03/2012 - 31/12/2012  -  SYMTISIS Project.

    Within the project SIMTISYS I was involved in the design, implementation and integration of a Matlab processor. This processor has been interfaced with a system in charge of coordinating its startup, monitoring its correct execution, providing input data, and verifying the outputs generated by the processor itself. The interface also provides the monitoring system with information on the progress of the execution. The main duty was:

    Matlab processor development. This processor takes in input informations about an oil spills detected over an ocean(shape, size and acquisition time) and try to correlate it to a passage of a big oil ship.



    01/06/2011 - 01/03/2012  -  SENECA PVSIS Program for Thales Alenia Space

    The SIS Verification Platform (PVSIS) is a platform for the detection, characterization and localization of GNSS bandwidth interference. The platform is equipped with a mobile component so that it can be used in measurement campaigns independently of the rest of the system. PVSIS consists of several processors, written predominantly in C ++ and Matlab languages, responsible for the acquisition, processing and analysis of data collected by the various receivers connected to the system. Coordinating and verifying the correct execution of each processor is entrusted to a monitoring system, which also allows to locate and circumscribe an error triggered by a processor during the workflow.

    Matlab processors development. My main duty in this project consisted in the design and implementation of processors in Matlab language. The scope of these processors were to identify the modulation of an interfering signal.

    Matlab processors integration. Subsequently, I have integrated them into the rest of the subsystem.

    Test procedure and report generation.  I followed the writing and execution of test procedures for the components I developed.
