Overview
Ken has, since 1976, been involved in all aspects of operational simulator development. His experience spans development of subsystem models, to project management of medium- to large-scale projects.
In 1994 he founded Headway Consultancy Ltd to provide consultancy to the Space, Defence and commercial markets, specialising in re-use and extended use of simulations to manage development costs and support the procurement process of large systems.
In 2011 he founded Mio Simulations to continue to provide Simulations Consultancy to the UK and European Space Industries.
His specialisations include Simulation Consultancy, Project Management, Spacecraft Modelling and Simulations.

Started Headway Consultancy Ltd in July 1994 as a provider of IT consultancy services, specialising in Space and Simulations. Developed the company’s range to Defence and Commercial markets. Grew the business to nearly 20 staff, with clients and staff in the UK, USA, Holland, Denmark and Germany.
Space activities: Technical and management consultancy to the ESOC Simulations Division. Responsible for ensuring the schedule and technical adequacy of simulator deliveries, and managing the suppliers of the ISO, Cluster and Pastel operational simulators Technical and management consultancy to ESOC for a hybrid simulations (HWIL) Technical consultancy to ESTEC for the development of Project Testbed (PTB) concept, later to become the Virtual Spacecraft Reference Facility (VSRF/EagleEye). Development of Simulation and interoperability standards for ESTEC, for the Simulator Portability Standard (SMP) as a standard under ECSS Several R&D style developments of model level interoperability over Milbus, CAN bus and USB connectivity Prototype developments of packet-based TM and TC interfaces to an existing EGSE system, and demonstration of a distributed PTB based on HLA. Defence activities: Consultant to MOD, Whitehall for the PERUSE study into the use of Synthetic Environments as an integral part of the Smart Procurement Process for large systems. Consultant to DERA, UK, on the design of the Virtual Ship Synthetic Environment Consultancy to the RAF for Computer-Based Training (CBT) for operational staff Development of the European Shooter/Sensor Simulation containing missile defence system models as part of Northrupp Grumman's "Global Engagement Model" for the US DOD MDA. Designed and demonstrated a distributed real-time system for scenario interaction between European based components and US-based systems.
Commercial activities:- Development of an Internet-based collection of marketing facilities for the Pharmaceutical industry. Delivery Manager for a large system development (c. £25M) for a 2000 seat 24/7 call-centre for the retail sector. Responsible for the scheduling and content of deliveries, liaison with the business and co-ordination within the development team which consisted of over 100 engineers. Consultant for the Project and Technical Management of a high capacity emergency notification system to be operated by an Application Service Provider. Development of propriety Engineering Standards developed under license for ESA’s PSS-05 use in the commercial sector
