  • Wrote a simulation that calculates valid input for Chapparal software and expected outputs in order to solve existing GNC-related problems discovered in field tests

 

Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod/Laser-Guided Bomb (LGB) (Jul. 07 – Mar. 08)

  • Part of an initiative to determine the feasibility of hitting a moving target with an LGB by leading the target with the laser designator

  • Used Monte Carlo analyses to explain many non-trivial effects of leading the target

  • Provided the Sniper team with a table of laser lead distances based on target speed and direction of motion for implementation in the targeting pod (flight tests to begin soon)

 

Common Guided Projectile Technologies/Multi-Modal Missile (May 07 – Jul. 07)

  • Developed aerodynamics routines in 6-Degrees-of-Freedom (6DOF) simulations

  • Added Monte Carlo capability and new atmosphere models to 6DOF simulations

  • Characterized all error sources for each weapon system and performed a complete error analysis to determine the effect of the errors on overall weapon performance
