PRESENT POSITION

Scientific programmer at European Commission – Joint Research Centre (IES, Institute for Environment and Sustainability.

Development of a prototype of the European Drought Observatory (EDO) to support the regular production of continental-scale drought information from meteorological, hydrological, remote sensing (MODIS and MERIS) data. The activity consists in the optimization of processing chain by the developing of bash scripts and IDL and R routines, in the developing of interfaces to access to database of meteorological and remote sensing data, in the realization of test procedures for the processing chain, in the production of documentation of the implemented algorithms and in the support to research activity linked to use of different sources of data.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Research assistant at Environmental Engineering Faculty of University of Rome “Sapienza“ (February 2010 – December 2010).

 Coherence enhancement methods for differential SAR interferograms. The activity consists in the scientific formulation of optimized kriging interpolation algorithms and in the implementation of routines in IDL language. The work is realized with the collaboration of IREA-CNR of Naples (Dott. Riccardo Lanari).

  • Research fellow at Geophysics Section of Earth Sciences Faculty of University of Milan (April 2007 – January 2010).

 Spaceborne radar interferometry applied to the study of seismic areas, in the ambit of the SISMA project of ASI (Agenzia Spaziale Italiana). The work consists into the development, following a V model software life cycle, of an optimized processing chain, constituted by C routines and bash scripts, to compute displacement maps from differential SAR interferograms. The realized activities are: definition of the algorithm design of the routines, implementation of the code, individuation of validation strategies, execution of tests and coordination of project milestones.

  • Tutor of Geographic Information Systems class at Earth Sciences Faculty of University of Milan (March, 2009 – January, 2010).

 Practises for the students, based on the use of open source GIS tools to manage spatial data.

  • Research assistant at Environmental Engineering faculty of University of Rome “Sapienza“ (September, 2006 – March, 2007).

 Deformation monitoring of volcanic areas. The work is based in the development of statistical models to integrate different types of measurements (DInSAR, GPS, high precision levelling) and in the implementation of routines in C and Matlab language.
