Related Experience

Young Graduate Trainee: Space Systems Engineer             2010-2011

European Space Agency: European Space Research and Technology Center

-Performed preliminary mission analysis for ocean observation satellite equipped with novel interferometric altimeter. Work included developing and tracking power and mass budgets, designing 3D models, analyzing power production, simulating coverage over areas of interest, optimizing payload duty cycle, and deriving communication requirements.

-Provided systems engineering support for Sentinel Convoy study. Involved evaluating the possibility of using smaller satellites in conjunction with European operational satellite, e.g. GMES Sentinels and Met-Op 2G satellites, in order to generate additional data products. Work included assessing cross discipline multiple satellites (SAR, optical and infrared) and constellation configurations, and reviewing data packages received from industry.

-Designed 3D models and power production analysis for novel satellite configuration that allows for multiple satellites to be stowed in one launcher and deployed into a low altitude constellation.

-Developed unique method to visualize effectiveness of sunshield for PREMIER mission by utilizing scripting capabilities of in-house 3D software with a generated file of sun vectors for orbit over entire year. Report of how analysis was done was shared within department for future reference.

-Performed beta testing for development of in-house mission analysis software. Provided feedback for improvements, checked for consistency and accuracy of results with Satellite Tool Kit and assisted in de-bugging.

-Attended presentations and training sessions including the Concurrent Engineering course at the Concurrent Design Facility.

Space Systems Engineer/Research Assistant                       2008-2010

York University Space Engineering Nanosatellite Development (YUsend)

-Built 1st generation electrical power system for YUsend group. Developed in house battery testing and solar panel assembly method. Performed power, orbit, thermal simulations, and 3D modeling for project.

-Performed mission analysis, developed system requirements for power subsystem, and analyzed orbital requirements for Polar Communications and Weather satellite for Northern Canada.

-Performed mission analysis, compiled user requirements, and also developed mission and systems requirements for constellation of small satellites for green house gas monitoring for Kyoto Protocol verification.

-YUsend Team coordinator for Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative’s SWARM project. Compiled reports for Phase A study, performed mission analysis, helped develop mission requirements, built and tested solar panels and produced 3D models.
