Propellant/Pneumatic Mechanic

 

Independently perform maintenance, modification, refurbishment, cleaning, troubleshooting, repair, adjustment, calibration, verification, certification, checkout, test and operation of high and low pressure pneumatic systems, GN2, Ghe, GO2, solvents and other liquids, gases and equipment used in receivable, storage and delivery of these various commodities such as tube banks, storage vessels, converters, tractors, vacuum systems, engines, pumps, compressors, rechargers, transfer hoses, various fixed systems and other related equipment.  Operate fixed or mobile equipment or systems used to receive, store, treat, transfer and deliver various liquids, gases and solid commodities, hazardous waste materials or other contaminated liquids.  Perform mixing of special gases as required.  Perform piping and tubing fabrication, installation, reconditioning and testing of all types of high-pressure lines and flexible hoses.  Perform work in their classifications when incidental, but necessary to accomplish work assignment.

 

Work from written and verbal instructions, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, vendor manuals and applicable specifications and codes.  Conduct functional and operational tests of refurbished, repaired and modified equipment and systems including hydrostatic testing and GN2 leak checks, if required.  Obtain measurements, field dimensions and other related information necessary to complete job assignment.  Use shop tools such as crimpers, hydraulic and hand binders, flare machines, torque wrenches, micrometers, calipers and other associated equipment.  Operate vehicles and other types of equipment required for completion of assigned tasks.  Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.  Maintain certifications, licenses, permits, etc., required for performance of assigned tasks.

Analyze and process Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Vendor Engineering Change Proposal (VECP).   Interface with SRB Chief Engineer and Marshall Space Flight Center.  Coordinate engring changes submitted to configuration from design services; verify that all engring is current by researching in the Document Release System (DRS), then disbursing the change to the evaluating community for impacts.  Upon receipt of impacts, review for any discrepancies, coordinate with lead engineer and write a directive to be presented at the weekly Level V Configuration Review Board for approval from the SRB Chief Engineer

Senior Launch Operations Technician

 

Perform a variety of hands-on duties in structural and mechanical areas during all phases of preparation for launch, erection and alignment, build up, checkout, count down, and launch of Titan IV SRMU (Solid Rocket Motor Upgrade). As a crane operator/director, perform elaborate dual and single crane operations with solid rocket motor segments and other flight hardware using 500 ton and 220 ton bridge crane, including the mating of fully stacked SRMU’s to the Titan IV core vehicle. Work daily with space flight hardware and/or ordnance performing receipt, transport, storage, repair, maintenance, calibration and installation. Perform mating of solid rocket motor segments, including critical o-ring joints. Work with engring in evaluation of tests and correction of malfunctions; perform tests and operational procedures, mechanical troubleshooting and fault isolation. Inspect o-rings, metal and solid rocket fuel surfaces and composite structures to engineering rqmts. Install explosive devices, including destruct charges, staging motors, initiators and igniters per elaborate drawing rqmts.

Shuttle Systems Tech A

 

Disassembled, refurbished and shipped solid rocket motors, including crane lifting, loading and unloading segments. Performed precision cleaning of dismantled boosters for reuse using complex engineering drawings, blueprints and procedures. Worked with a variety of chemicals and compounds required to ensure proper vehicle disassembly. Maintained and troubleshot multiple types of GSE which included hydraulic pumps, lifting apparatuses and structural components.  Operated high-pressure water blast gun (15000 psi.) for removal of Shuttle Thermal Protective Systems.
