Senior Software Architect
Key player in the development/design of the SCS21 System which was tailored for use by Lockheed Martin Space Systems for use as the core of the SBIRS (Space Based Infrared System) Ground System and the STSS (Satellite Test System Software) for the GEO family of satellites (GEO1, GEO2, GEO3). The STSS system was developed/maintained/installed by Lockheed Martin IS&GS for use by Lockheed Martin Space Systems. As the system architect of the STSS system, I assisted Lockheed in creating standards and practices in the early stages of software development. I designed many of the modifications required to convert SCS21 from a Satellite Ground System to a Satellite Test System. Implementation responsibilities included developing the interface between SCS21 core code and a COTS product called ICS (now called SRA) which provided a scripting language (SCL) runtime engine. STSS has been installed in many labs in Sunnyvale, CA, and has over 100+ users of the system. Along with being the Senior Software Architect of the STSS system, I continue to provide software development duties, software error analysis, system administration duties, performance analysis, and end user support. Additionally, I am the team lead of several Scitor personnel who provide Software CM, on-site support of STSS and lab configurations, STSS system test and software development.
08/2004 – 05/2002 Loral Federal Systems (subcontracted)
Senior Software Engineer
IBM Federal Systems was purchased by Loral Federal Systems. Based on the “SSOP” system developed by IBM Federal Systems, Loral Federal Systems developed a commercial product called SCS21. I was responsible for software development/design and maintenance of this new client/server based application supporting a large-scale satellite ground control software system for use at Space Systems Loral. This facility was implemented to be able to support up to 3 simultaneous satellite launches, as well as supporting a Long Term Operations Mission Control Center. This was an object oriented C++ software development on Solaris workstations, using ‘Sammi’ for all display development, and Rogue Wave Tools.h++ and DBTools.h++ for Sybase database interface. Satellites launched by this system include Sirius Radio, DIRECTV, PanAmSat (a South American communication system), APStar, a commercial system used by Japan. Some of the team members for the development/support of this SCS21 system were also Scitor personnel, for which I was the technical lead. I developed the software to interface with the ‘Sammi COTS product’, along with supporting/modifying over 300k lines of code.

As part of a team of developers in Sunnyvale CA, and in Colorado Springs, Co, developed a prototype in C++ for an Air Force system called “SSOP” (Simplified Satellite Operations System). This was a Solaris based system, using Sybase as its database. I was responsible for all of the GUI interfaces, several of the Sybase database schemas and interfaces. I developed the Alarm handling subsystem, the interface to all SSOP displays, and several other areas of the SSOP system.. Responsible for the design, implementation and testing of several new relational database tables and stored procedures.

As part of a small team of developers, developed a system called L1TPS, which was designed for use in processing of DSP (Defense Support Program) Link1 Telemetry data. My responsibilities included the integration of a new COTS product called ‘Sammi” by Kinesix. Using this product, I was responsible for the development of the entire user interface and also the software used for configuring and monitoring the status of the software applications. This system was built on an IBM AIX platform. This system was eventually installed at Shriever AFB in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Joined an IRAD (Internal Research and Development) group to provide prototypes and demonstrate new technologies applicable to various Satellite systems. Worked on the integration of various COTS systems to provide light-weight, simple Satellite Ground Systems technologies. Quickly learned C programming language and Sybase interfaces to develop a system called TWS-3. This TWS-3 system was sold to a classified Mission Control Center to provide a backup telemetry processing system, including support of satellites launched from the Space Shuttle.

Provided mission support to a classified Mission Control Center (VOH). Assumed the responsibility of Software Technical Analyst by performing analysis and debugging of the DSM software system. Provided system anomalies analysis and resolutions. Configured Missions Unique Software. Performed real-time troubleshooting. Solved discrepancies postpass and documented workarounds. Created and ran tests for system integrity. Tested new software releases prior to integration into the existing system. Was responsible for the installation and configuration of a new prototype called Telemetry Processing System (TWS-3). I was “borrowed” by the IBM Federal Systems IRAD group for what was to be a 3 month time period, which was extended to 20 years of support of various systems described in this resume.

Worked under the Air Force Det 6 (DVO) organization. Responsibilities included oversight of a new IBM Mainframe system (DSM – Data System Modernization) being developed by IBM Federal Systems to replace antiquated AFSCN processing computers and architecture. Primary focus was in the area of Satellite Telemetry Processing software/hardware. Reviewed requirements for the Satellite Test Center (later known as Onizuka Air Force Station). Attended requirements review meetings, acted as the interface between the users of the Mission Control Centers and IBM Federal Systems. Reviewed software architecture specifications and system test plans and procedures.
As the deliveries of the new DSM systems came on line, I became responsible for the configuration of the database building environment for 3 classified Mission Control Centers, VOD, VOC and VOH. This gave me the opportunity to single handedly learn the internals of the DSM system, teach and assist the end users of the DSM system, and act as the interface between the users and IBM personnel to identify deficiencies and provide tools to expedite the development of complex Satellite database configurations. Received several commendations from the Air Force for undertaking such a difficult task and doing so on time, ensuring that the DSM system become functional as quickly as possible.
Became the supervisor of approximately 15 engineers, which provided assistance to the various Mission Control Centers and supported the SDTL-B, an onsite Software Development and test laboratory used for testing of the DSM software and provide and environment for DSM Database development. This also involved acting as an interface between a group of software developers and a classified Mission Control Center to develop a Mission Unique tool.
