Experienced in LEO Earth observing and astronomical observatories; GEO telecommunication and weather-observing platforms; as well as interplanetary missions. Familiarity in working with several NASA centers, JPL, and foreign customers. Good communications, decision-making, and team building skills. Understanding of current industry and technology developments. Qualified to lead the planning and execution of customer capabilities and needs assessments. Qualified to develop candidate mission and system architecture concepts that incorporate innovative engineering approaches.

• Key member of the team that planned and executed the retirement of the TDRS-1 spacecraft after 27 years of service. Helped develop the unique approach that allowed compliance with NASA orbital debris requirements despite TDRS-1 on orbit failures.

• Developed the life cycle costing for mission operations resulting in an NGST mission control center and a major role in spaceship operations,

The awards were bestowed to NASA’s GSFC and TRW teams for Aqua’s on-orbit success and for a smooth introduction of the second satellite in NASA’s Earth Observing System. Aqua represented one of the smoothest launch, activation and checkout periods of any flight system in Goddard's history," said Phil Sabelhaus, who served as GSFC's Aqua project manager.
