Since 2004, I have been studying in the Exp. Physics Dept. at NUI Maynooth. Most recently while researching for my MSc I have been predominantly focusing on numerical optimisation techniques for the development of an accurate alignment procedure for a near-field scanning system. This work has given me experience in data modeling and non-linear fitting routines. My original background being in Physics with Astrophysics has given me the opportunity to work with large data sets and I have performed data reduction using software packages such as IRAF.
National University of Ireland, Maynooth, 2011.
Research MSc in Experimental Physics
Thesis: The Optimisation of a Near-Field Scanning System (due for submission October 2011)
Involving the construction and optimisation of a new scanning system used for the testing and verification of optical components for various ground and space based instruments.
Ø High level of experiences gained in C++, MATLAB, LabVIEW and Mathematica.
Ø Data analysis and modeling including implementation of linear and non-linear fitting methods for both real and complex data.
Ø Modeling of optical systems using both commercial and in-house developed software packages
Ø Large amount of electronics and interfacing experience.
Ø Presentation of work including seminars, poster presentations and report writing.
European Space Agency Summer School, Alpbach, Tyrol, Austria, 2010.
Summer School on the Development of New Space Missions for Investigating Climate Change
Alongside 14 other post-graduate students from around Europe designed a novel satellite mission (AVALON) for investigating the water vapour and aerosol content in the upper troposphere/lower stratosphere.
Received group award for best scientific case and the mission design is still being studied by ESA.
