Thesis Title: Solitons and Volume Preserving Flow

Supervisor: Prof. P. M. Sutcliffe

Thesis introduces volume preserving flow, a modified gradient flow which preserves given global quantities which can be written as a function of the local density. This flow is used to model minimal surfaces using domain wall networks - the flow preserves the volumes bounded by the surfaces. Volume preserving flow is also used to compute static solutions to scale invariant field theories without relying on any symmetry arguments.

M.Sc, Elementary Particle Theory, August 2007

Degree program consisted of a range of lecture topics anda thesis. Lecture topics included classical and quantum field theory, general relativity, string theory, cosmology, non-perturbative methods, supersymmetry, conformal field theory, group theory and the standard model.

Thesis Topic: Black Holes in Higher Dimensions

Supervisor: Prof. R. Gregory

Thesis is a brief review of black holes in higher dimensions. Standard results in 3 + 1 dimensions are

introduced and generalised into higher dimensions. Black ring solutions are introduced and discussed in detail. Finally, Kaluza-Klein type black holes (e.g. black strings) are discussed.

My interest in football also includes Fantasy football and I am in the process of developing a website to manage the fantasy league that I participate in. Whilst at Nottingham I founded the University darts team and I Captained Durham University team. This gave me the opportunity to organise the first Durham Premier League Darts championship. I enjoy cycling and have taken part in several charity bike rides (fortunately the other participants always seem prepared to wait for me). I am regular member of a pub quiz team and enjoy taking part in quizzes, not only as a contestant, but also as an occasional quiz master.
