Designed electrical power system for CubeSat investigating Atmospheric Density Response to Extreme driving (CADRE) to be entered into the Air Force Research Lab's University Nanosat-7 Program. This system currently provides su cient power for nominal operations with a comfortable 36% margin.
Created STK power generation simulation to model energy accumulation over a single orbit using an orbit propagator model, geometry based on the sun vector and spacecraft orientation, and solar cell distribution.
Currently designing and testing flight avionics for power regulation and maximum peak power tracking
The University of Michigan (Physics) May 2010 - Aug 2010
Research Assistant
Designed gondola to carry telescope to study CMB during launch, ight, and impact on high-altitude balloon. Thin-walled carbon ber/epoxy pipes were the primary materials.
Tested gondola design with FEA software. Gondola passed impact and modal analyses.
Drafted parts for a Fourier Transform Spectrometer used for calibrating hypersensitive CCDs. Constructed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Academic Projects
Phoenix
Project Manager, Propulsion Specialist
Designed two Satlets for DARPA's Phoenix project as directed by Space Systems Loral. Satlets are microsat-scale craft used to provide speci c capabilities in repurposing of derelict technology.
Sized hydrogen peroxide propulsion system for Propulsor Satlet and developed CAD model Developed and veri ed system budgets and incorporated future risk reduction steps
Balloon Satellite
Communication System Specialist
Designed and built radio for high-altitude launch cubesat using amateur radio, terminal node controller modem, and Arduino Nano microprocessor.
Programmed Arduino to send AX.25 packets of GPS and sensor data to ground station
