4th and 5th year MSci Project: Computational Simulation and Molecular modelling applications to ultrafast 2D-IR spectroscopy

 

  • Investigating one and two dimensional infrared spectroscopy of a small molecule in gas phase and solution using methods from semi-empirical quantum chemistry and chemical physics.
  • Developed a solid grounding in atomistic scale modelling and extensive experience with the UNIX computing environment.
  • Project allowed me to gain some experience in using scripting languages (bash shell and PERL) and further developed my scientific programming skills in FORTRAN.

Personal Achievements

I was a former member of the Boys’ Brigade. One of my proudest achievements was obtaining the Queen’s Badge. As part of the work for the Queen’s Badge I was involved in voluntary care work, which gave me the opportunity to deal with disabled people. After successfully completing the Queen’s Badge work I was promoted to Staff Sergeant which allowed me to help the younger boys with their badge work and activities.

Interests & Activities 

I enjoy keeping up to date with developments in the science community and going to the gym.
