  1. Participated in the following European Defence Agency programs:

SARape

§  Specified and designed a 2.4 GHz telemetry data link used to transmit 80Mbps of raw SAR data from a small manned aircraft at a maximum distance of 5Km.

§  Designed the RF blocks of the Transmitter and receiver, down to the PCB and component level (LNA’ s, Power Amplifiers, VCO’ s, AGC’ s, filters).

§  Fabricated, tested and integrated the RF sub-units into machined aluminum housings.

§  Interfaced with partners from Fraunhofer FHR and IAF (Germany), Propatria Electronics (Hungary) and Warsaw University (Poland) and provided various test reports and measurement data for the telemetry link performance. Organized design reviews and formal progress reporting meetings.

APIS

§  Specified and designed a novel, broadband dipole antenna array operating at the DVB-T band which was used for the successful demonstration of a Passive, Multistatic ISAR system in cooperation with Indra Systemas and University of Alcala (Spain) and CNIT (Italy).

§  Performed a series of full-wave EM simulations (in HFSS) to investigate the antenna tradeoffs and decide on which type of antenna to use for the best impact on system performance.

 

  1. Participated in the  following Research Promotion Foundation Programs:

Design and Implementation of a Novel Wireless Receiver Chain Using Metamaterial Quad Band Devices

§  Created a new design methodology for the fabrication of quad-band microwave metamaterial devices. This methodology was then used to design and fabricate a quad-band receiver chain consisting of a coupler, mixer and antenna, to demonstrate that metamaterial devices can be used for multiband systems with significant hardware and cost savings.

§  Fabricated the first metamaterials ever built in Cyprus using state of the art PCB fabrication facilities and designed, prototyped and tested a microwave quad-band power divider using Negative-Refractive-Index Transmission-Line unit cells.

§  Designed, prototyped and tested RF blocks such as amplifiers, LNA’s, filters, switches, PLL’s, diplexers and dividers for use in Receivers, Upconverters and STALO’s utilized in SAR radar, radiometer and scatterometer subsystems (HF-band to X-band) on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s), spacecraft and satellites.

§  Integrated RF blocks into subsystem level units for radar subsystem units and overlooked the production, tuned and tested a big number of Receivers, Upconverters and STALO’s employed in UAV’s. 

§  Wrote Acceptance Test Procedures for radar subsystem units, reviewed Specifications and Module Design Descriptions for these subsystems and developed the documentation necessary to take projects from the design phase to prototyping, production, testing and delivery to the customer.

§  Participated in Design Reviews and reported to the President on major issues and interfaced with customers and reviewed projects for future satellites and the next generation of airborne systems.

§  Overlooked the production, inspected and tested a Signal Distribution Unit for a Government satellite and supported customers after delivery of product in the proper operation of the systems.

§  Set up the company’s Quality System, including drafting all the Quality System documentation and led the company through a successful ISO 9001:2000 certification in an 11-month period as the ISO Management Representative of the company.

Participated in the following sounding rocket programs: SPIRIT, SPIRIT II, SPIRIT III (ESPRIT)

§  Interfaced with scientists from NASA to specify the requirements for the rocket instruments and acted as the advisor to students for the SPIRIT III project.

§  Prototyped, built and tested a 2.3 GHz transmitter for the joint NASA and PSU payload launched successfully in May 2000 on a Nike-Orion sounding rocket to perform measurements in the upper Mesosphere and integrated transmitter with the rest of the payload at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility, in Virginia, USA.
