CURRICULUM VITAE July/2013

PROFILE

Astrophysicist with experience on space engineering.

PERSONAL PROFILE

Nationality:           Spanish

Date of Born:        12/January/1977

EDUCATION

PhD in astrophysics. Title of the doctorate: The Optical Camera INTEGRAL-OMC: Monitorisation of High Energy Sources. The work has been developed at Laboratorio de Astrofísica Espacial y Física Fundamental (LAEFF) at ESAC, in collaboration with Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). 2008.

Bachelor's degree in Physics at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM). Year 2002.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

Since October/2012. Interface Engineer working on the Meteosat Third Generation at EUMETSAT (Darmstadt, Germany). Main duty: configuration of the BEST software (data models definition and ICD management), definition and maintenance of procedures, support to users.

July/2008 - September/2012 (~4 years). Post-doctoral position at Leiden Observatory (The Netherlands). I developed and installed software, working on a revision control environment.

My main duty was to develop a simulation of the attitude of Gaia, a scientific ESA mission to be launched in 2013. This work was performed in collaboration with the Institute of Astronomy (IoA, Cambridge, UK) and the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (ZARM, Bremen, Germany), amongst other European institutions. The model simulates all important related systems (Attitude Control System, sensors, micro-thrusters; following state-of-the-art developments) and disturbances (solar radiation, micro-meteoroids, etc.). This simulation was part of the ground segment test of the Gaia scientific pipeline.

lI analysed the expected radiation damage in the CCDs on-board Gaia, regarding the point spread function.

lI collaborated in the pipeline of Gaia, in the “photometric processing” (i.e. low resolution spectra). I collaborated on “First Look”, a software that gets telemetry and raw data and provides an estimation of the quality of the scientific data.

September/2003 - June/2008 (~5 years). Instrument engineer at Instituto Nacional de Técnica Aeroespacial (LAEFF/INTA, National Institute for Aerospace Technology), at ESAC (Madrid, Spain). OMC stands for  Optical Monitoring Camera, instrument on-board INTEGRAL, an ESA mission. I worked on OMC scientific operations.

My main duty was the OMC calibration. I also checked housekeeping daily, analysed anomalies, status of the instrument in the long term, etc.

I populated periodically the OMC database with new data, and I assessed the quality of the archive.

I gave support to scientist (presentations, feedback) in order to allow them to publish data from OMC.

I contributed to the INTEGRAL Galactic Bulge Monitoring: software development and monitorisation of sources.

In addition I observed and processed data from on-ground telescopes in order to find optical counterparts of high energy sources.

September/2002 - August/2003 (1 year, part-time). I started PhD about a photometric search for brown dwarfs in open clusters. I processed data from optical on-ground telescopes.

September/2001 - August/2003 (2 years, part-time). Information Technology Department at UCM, user help desk. Duties: hardware & software installation, mail, network, etc.
