CV

An enthusiastic physics graduate fuelled by a strong desire to work within the space industry. An extensive knowledge of physics is complemented by strong proficiency in programming languages, data analysis skills and work experience in the satellite industry.

Space Industry Work Experience

Summer 2012: Placement at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL)

·         Successfully awarded a bursary from the U.K Institute of Physics to complete a project at SSTL.

·         Project involved development of software tools to handle, manipulate and convert radiation dose data into a readable format from a variety of satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO).

·         Successfully completed the project, providing arguably the largest data set for radiation dose data in LEO currently available, spanning over numerous satellites and 11 years of operation.

·         Further developed problem solving skills and ability to engineer software for a specific task.

Education and Qualifications

2009-2013 University of Sussex:   MPhys (Hons) Physics with Astrophysics (1st)

Key modules included:

·         Radiative Processes in Astrophysics

·         Scientific Computing for Physicists

·         Data Acquisition and Analysis

·         Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics

·         Thermal and Statistical Physics

·         MPhys Advanced Experimental Laboratory

Completing a Physics with Astrophysics degree has reinforced my desire to work within the space industry, and my enjoyment of physics as a whole. In the process I have gained many skills, including in-depth research and analysis from laboratory work and oral communication through a series of assessed presentations.  During my final year I independently developed software that provides further insight into how the first stars in the Universe formed.

·         Awarded a First Class with Honours degree with an overall mark of 80.1%.

·         Awarded the Sussex “Roger Taylor” award for the best student on the MPhys 2013.

·         Awarded best dissertation grade within the MPhys programme (2013).

2002-2009 Maidstone Grammar School: GCSE’s  and  International Baccalaureate (I.B.)

The International Baccalaureate is regarded by many be to be considerably harder than the equivalent A-level course students can take at this level of education. I enrolled on the programme as I was attracted by the unique challenges the Baccalaureate provided, including the promotion of extracurricular activities. Completion of the I.B means that I have a high competency in a wide range of subject areas. I have also learned to manage my time effectively so in order to complete work to a high standard while still enjoying personal interests.
