SUMMARY: I am a recent graduate of the University of Alberta with a BSc Specialization in Physics.
During my studies, I earned a place on the Dean’s Honor roll, while developing a strong technical
background in mathematics and science. The theoretical and applied experiences I have gained allow
me to reduce a wide array of problems to first principles. Insight into these challenges can then be
gained through the numerous mathematical methods and scientific techniques in which I have become
During my studies, I participated in several research projects, including an undergraduate thesis in
Space Physics. In another project I performed research into scientific policy focusing on water
conservation. Furthermore I designed and taught space science outreach camps for teenagers over the
I was awarded a scholarships to pursue a semester at the University of Hong Kong and to participate in
an intensive week long Rocket Engineering/Space Science program in Norway co-hosted by the
Norwegian and Canadian Space Agencies. I have also volunteered as a Science Student Mentor with
the University and with the UofA Nanotechnology group organizing lectures and updating the website.
Advanced study of Electromagnetic Theory with a particular interest in its application to wave
phenomenon in plasma. Demonstrated ability to work with sensitive scientific equipment, thoroughly
documenting observations, performing and presenting analysis. Senior Undergraduate study of Quantum,
Orbital and Statistical Mechanics; interest in Geophysics, Circuit Theory and Optics.
׃ 2013. (Undergraduate Thesis) Observations of Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron Waves: A Possible Loss
Mechanism of Outer Radiation Belt Electrons. Supervisors: Dr. Ian Mann & Dr. Maria Usanova.
׃ 2013. (Experimental Project) Thin Film Interference. Created anti-reflection coatings and optical band
pass filter using physical vapor deposition techniques.
׃ 2013. (Experimental Project) Low Temperature Resistivity. Explored the different mechanisms of
electrical transmission in semi and regular conductors as a function of temperature.
Strong mathematical background in advanced topics related to physics such as the theory of operators on
infinite dimensional vector spaces, complex analysis of differential equations, and group representation
theory. I have developed a wide array of computational skills including fluency in Microsoft Office and
internet research. Furthermore I am competent developer in the UNIX environment developing high level
proficiency in MATLAB and C++ as well as a good familiarity with HTML, Java and Python.
׃ 2012. (Computational Project) Protein Folding. Exploration of complex energy landscape of possible
polymer configurations using Monte Carlo methods and stochastic sampling techniques.
׃ 2012. (Computational Project) Newton’s Universe. A gravitational applet capable of replicating an
assortment of dynamics using a self-starting ODE integration procedure and an adaptive time step.
In my final year of studies, I participated in an experimental, inter-disciplinary class focused on science
and it’s relation to society. Along with my team I researched the Alberta provincial water conservation
policy. We raised awareness of the issues and identified opportunities proposing scientifically valid
solutions to optimize water usage. Through our efforts we created a student group on campus, held open
public lectures on topics relevant to water conservation and I wrote a policy outline for the implementation
of grey water systems in Alberta. Furthermore I have developed strong written communication skills in
Microsoft Office, pursuing electives in philosophy, and scientific platforms like LateX. Volunteering as
webmaster for the U of A Nanotechnology group taught me about online communication using HTML.
2012-13 :. (Science 299: Science & Society) Alberta Water Conservation Initiative AWCI Vice President
of Communication
׃ 2012-13. (U of A Nanotechnology Group) Volunteered at events, and served as webmaster
communicating with members, guest lecturers and updating the website.
׃ 2012-13. (Student Mentor for the Faculty of Science). Met with high-school applicants, and young
students to discuss my experience and provide guidance.
׃ (2011) (Young Scholars Award) Scholarship to Study in Hong Kong
׃ (2013) (ISSET CaNo Rock Exchange) Scholarship to participate in a Canadian-Norwegian space
agency rocket engineering and space physics program.
׃ (2013) (‘Science student wants to make real world change’) Article available online June 10, 2013.
