Spacecraft Hardware and Communication Systems Engineer Spire Global, Scotland                       Jan 2016-Present

Lead hardware engineer for a deployable VHF and UHF antenna subsystem with asymmetric link performance for 3U sized CubeSats. The subsystem has been flight-proven and installed on more than 30 Spire satellites.

Lead hardware engineer for a low power ADCS subsystem including redundant horizon sensors and magnetometers.

Analysed and improved UHF and S-band link budgets between more than 25 ground stations and the whole Spire satellite fleet. Advised hardware selection for already-built and planned ground stations to improve robustness and RF performance. Wrote test plans and procedures that each hardware unit must go through prior to its on-site installation. 

Supported satellite operations by solving on-orbit escalations related to UHF communication subsystems. 

Performed satellite radio tests to verify key parameters including sensitivity and BER. Tested RF performance of different antennas and systems-level communication links in an anechoic chamber.


RF and Microwave Engineer Rantelon Ltd, Estonia                                  Sept 2013-Jan 2016

Designed schematics and PCBs for analog off-the-shelf signal conditioning products including: filters, power dividers, and amplifiers for the VHF, UHF and S-band.

Developed a 2.5-2.6GHz analog repeater prototype for LTE7 according to the ETSI and ITU standards.

Generated manufacturing instructions and coordinated with manufacturing team to introduce new processes.

Measured, tuned, and tested devices according to the customer’s needs.

Developed and maintained a LEO satellite receiving system in order to investigate corrugated ground plane’s effect on a hemispherical and circularly polarized antenna.



Software:         Altium PCB Designer, CST, AWR Design Environment, SolidWorks, MatLab, MatCad, 4NEC2, LTSpice, Github, Xcode, different RF calculators, and Microsoft Office programs.

Practical:          Competent in use of laboratory test equipment including spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, and     oscilloscopes. IPC A-610 soldering certificate and knowledge to set up and conduct various tests in the EMC chamber. 

Capable of using different RF matching techniques based on the S-parameters and the Smith Chart. 

Programming: Basic knowledge in C, some knowledge in ARM microcontroller programming.

Languages:     Estonian (native language), English (fluent), Spanish (intermediate A2), Japanese (basic A2.1), Russian (basic, studied in high school), French (basic, studied in high school).
