The Automated Transfer Vehicle of the International Space Station was controlled from the CNES ATV-CC at Toulouse. The first flight was in 2008. GMV (Spain) was under contract from CNES to develop the ground control flight dynamics system for the ATV-CC. For CNES and as a full time consultant, I was responsible for the software design specifications and supervising (the Spanish sub-Co) development of three elements of ground control software done by the (sub-co) GMV. The three elements being: T_ATT attitude monitoring using gyros and optical “startrackers”, T_VDA attitude monitoring using videometer instruments and T_VTG attitude and range monitoring using telegoniometers (Laser radars). In addition, participated in various pre-operational simulations and tests in the control center such for LEOP and Rendez-vous.

Planck is a European Space Agency astronomy satellite with a mission to image the anisotropies of the Cosmic Background Radiation Field. SENER was responsible for the design and validation testing of the attitude and orbit control system (AOCS). I was responsible for the Planck AOCS on-board software design specifications and supervising development of the on-board software undertaken by the sub-contractor company. This was done through work-packages and formal reviews of PDR/CDR/QR etc. In addition, I monitored the technical aspects of the system integration, development and procurement of the autonomous Star-Tracker instruments. In the final phase of the AOCS development, assumed responsibility for assigning tasks to the Planck team in-order to resolve anomaly / problem reports and NCRs. Participated with the system engineer in operational and contingency flight procedures development.

EADS-LV is the prime contractor for the Automated Transfer Vehicle of the International Space Station. Astrium has designed and manufactured the gyroscope and accelerometer detector assemblies (ACCA and GYRA) that are placed in the ATV avionics bay. At EADS-LV, Department of Navigation Systems, I was responsible for supervising the development of the GYRA and ACCA instruments that were taking place at the sub-contractor site of Astrium, Toulouse. The ACCA consists of six accelerometers and an electronics module, used during orbit manoeuvres. The GYRA consists of four gyroscopes and an electronics module, used in the ATV AOCS. The formal flight qualification involved detailed testing concerning performance, functional, vibration, thermal, shock & EMC. The TRB, CDR and AR/QR formally approved the design, test results and units suitability for spaceflight.
