Organiser/Event Manager
Reinventing Space Conference

The Reinventing Space (RISpace) conference is focused on innovation in the space sector. 2017 marked its 15th edition.

I have been the organiser for this event since its relocation to the UK. The 2014 and 2016 events took place at the Royal Society, London. The 2015 event took place in Oxford and the 2017 event in Glasgow.

RISpace is attended by delegates from all sectors of space from industry and agency, to academia and government. The conference takes place over three days and is organised into a single session including keynotes, panels and presentations.

Keynotes and panellists come from the Director General/CEO/VP level. Presentations are generally chosen for a strong emphasis upon innovation.

There is an exhibition and a parallel careers event at each conference.

I have been solely responsible for
-site visits to venues and selection
-managing finances
-obtaining sponsors
-attracting and managing the attendance of keynotes; VIP liaison
-designing and maintaining the conference website
-all mailshots from design to dissemination
-organising the exhibition
-coordinating with printers, caterers, designers, venue staff and others
-organising a Programme Committee
-organising premium rates at local hotels
-managing the conference dinner and all social events
-firefighting and problem-solving at the event itself
-making papers and presentations available to attendees after the event
-editing and publishing the proceedings

I organise the event on behalf of the British Interplanetary Society.

The IISL cooperates with international and national institutions in the field of space law. I have been involved in all aspects of the creation and maintenance of IISL website – editing, writing and deployment. I started their social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. I was awarded with an IISL Certificate of Gratitude in 2011.

Editor with Human Spaceflight and Operations at the ESTEC facility in the Netherlands. During this six month fixed contract, I assisted in finalising the publication of the "European User Guide To Low Gravity Platforms"

HiiL is an organisation, based in The Hague, dedicated to improving access to justice worldwide. As community manager and webmaster, I used social media, their websites and their newsletter to interface with their wider audience of professionals, innovators, students and the interested public.

International Astronautical Federation, Paris (2006-12)

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is the world’s foremost space advocacy organisation, a federation of international space agencies, industry, professional societies and universities.

I was responsible for the IAF website from its inception – repurposing, writing and editing. I developed the Federation's social media strategy from scratch, and expanded its audience to thousands, selecting the correct channels to meet IAF needs and building the external reputation of the IAF.

- Ran, wrote and edited the IAF website.
- Managed logistics for annual conference programme of plenary events
- Started and maintained the IAF’s various social networking and video sites
- Established, wrote and produced the IAF newsletter
- Managed the IAF news service sent daily to top industry subscribers
- Edited on behalf of the IAF, the United Nations annual Highlights in Space publication
- Represented IAF Secretariat on history, education and culture committees

Worked as part of the ESA Science team upon the esa.int/science portal on the SMART-1, Mars Express, Venus Express, Rosetta and Cassini-Huygens missions.

Edited scientists’ writing to a format suitable for this public-facing website, commissioned and implemented graphics and multimedia and implemented portal material using ESA’s content management system.

I am the Chair (2013-9) of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Space Societies Committee (SSC) which looks after the community and outreach interests of space societies, and professional associations. I am Vice Chair of the IAF Space Museums and Science Centres Committee.
