Stress & Design Engineer / Principal Engineer – Pileco Inc. (Houston, Texas) 11/07 – 1/09
Investigated and defined component and system level engineering specifications.
Justified design decisions through engineering calculations, analysis, and modeling and created supporting engineering docs.
Participated in design reviews, continuous improvement activities and equipment failure resolution activities.
Designed, procured and validated design concepts based on system level requirements leading to production of safe and efficient pile
driving equipments. Reduced cost of systems through design optimization, careful material selection, and DFMA.
Performed stress analyses on pile driving systems. Forced vibration analyses of driving components and shock/impact analyses
including soil-structure interaction. Fatigue analysis and shape/weight optimization. Performed loads and stability analysis for various
pile driving systems lifted by large cranes under different angular driving configurations and setups.
Some key achievements:
+ Made Excel spreadsheets for load and stability analysis.
+ Derived a stability method allowing verification of Pile-crane system stability directly from the crane load chart.
+ Demonstrated & confirmed the amazing failure of helical seam steel piles through FEA impact inducing failure simulation.

Research Associate- University of Houston/ VERI (Houston, Texas) 01/01 – 07/01
Conducted computer simulations and modeling on human soft tissue hyper-elasticstretching behavior. The project was part of a computer-assisted post-mastectomy for tissue reconstructive surgery aiming to assist and provide physicianswith tools to better reconstruct the tissues' shape without leaving residual stresses. Duties included: development of 3D/2D Finite-Elements tissue models using Abaqus and Matlab; meeting regularly with leading MD-Anderson Cancer Center physiciansdiscussing progress made and assessing the computer models. Witnessed a 16-hours live reconstructive surgical procedure.
Used: Abaqus, Matlab (Optimization and Partial Differential Equations toolboxes), and Maple among others..
Research Associate- University of Houston/ Department of Mechanical Engineering, (Houston, Texas) 06/00 – 12/00
Studied the dynamic behavior of NiTi shape memory alloy samples using the Split Hopkinson bars apparatus. Duties included the design, setup, and calibration of the experimental apparatus using PMMA test samples; Studied the material dynamic behavior subjected to impacts at high-strain rates; Investigated and demonstrated experimentally the samples’ shape self-recovery phenomenon.
Used: Light gas-gun, strain and pressure gages, high-resolution digital oscilloscope, Matlab software
Research Engineer - Serlog Industry (ST Denis, France) 10/94 – 02/95
Extension of the previous overhead crane project allowing the writing of a synthesizing document that may serve as a reference for the nuclear safety regulation of overhead cranes.
Research Engineer - French Power Energy Generator (EDF) /AMV Department (Clamart, France) 10/91–09/94
Studied and assessed the seismic behavior of safety regulated nuclear overhead cranes.
Developed a simplified seismic calculation method adapted for sliding structures based on the response spectrum and probabilistic
equivalent linearization methods using Markov system and Focker-Kolmogorov-Planck Equations;
Designed scale models of overhead cranes respecting the similitude of scale;
Performed modal analyses of scale models with free and fixed supports conditions to simulate the all-sliding and all-sticking
Seismic tests performed with a shake table on scale models of overhead cranes with consideration of sliding possibility at the
braked rollers and supports;
Developed and modified Fortran subroutines for the 2D friction model called by the Finite Elements modal transient integration
method into the company’s CODE_ASTER software;
Performed seismic simulations (Monte Carlo) on FE models of cranes with 2D Coulomb's friction law at the braked rollers;
Co-developed a 2D positioning transducer based on an emitting-light computer mouse, which then was used to measure the plan
coordinates of each roller/support of the crane scale models.
Published and presented conference and international congress papers and wrote regular internal progress reports and notes;
Supervised three graduate students.

Studied the buckling of the fuel pins’ holding zirconium grids of a PWR reactor under extreme load conditions such as an earthquake or a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA).
· Finite-elements analyses of the holding grids with the company’s CASTEM2000 software.
· Computer simulations of the grids’ buckling and derivation of the critical load and buckling mode.
Research Assistant - Laboratory of Physics and Mechanics of Material (Metz, France) 04/90 – 06/90
Assisted in setting-up and analyzing results from an experiment for the study of wave propagation in non-elastic materials using a Hopkinson bars apparatus, strain gages and high-resolution digital oscilloscope.
Engineer Associate - VEGA AUTOMATION (Manufacturer of packaging machines), (Troyes, France) 05/87 – 06/87
Smoothed the profiles of high cadence cams used to synchronize different motions of intricate packaging machines.
Reduced the induced output translation (cam’s radial) inertia by introducing a sinusoidal variation to the profile between the cam’s stages. Made a Lisp program under AutoCAD, allowing an easy parametric design of the cam’s profile.
