Development of a System for lab-Testing a Test Transponder Following FAA Regulations

ATC (Air Traffic Control) – SSR (Secondary Surveillance Radar)

 

The objective has been to realize a system, easy to use by any operator, for testing a Test Transponder, an instrument that can be used for field monitor and test SSR acting as a real transponder. The testswere made through TB-2100, an instrument that provides capability to interrogate a transponder. TB-2100 can be controlled, through RS-232 connection, by a PC that permits a simple way to run the tests. Using Microsoft Visual Basic 2010TM, asoftware tool was realized to control andto simulate TB-2100 that was not available as a real instrument during the development phase. The tests implemented are those required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAR 43 – Appendix F).
