EXPERIENCE

Jun 2011 – Present:        Space Systems Engineer, Young Graduate Trainee, working on the ESA Lunar Lander, in the HSO Department, ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, the Netherlands

Within this project I am involved in various aspects of the Phase B activities, including Propulsion System Hydraulic Breadboard Testing and Hardware Validation using EcoSim Pro, Priming sequence analysis, Pressure Drop analysis, Mass Flow assessment, High Flow Latch Valves operation, Thruster Performance Testing Procedures, Thruster Plume-Surface Interaction, Electrical Power System Analysis and Power Mast Solution Assessment, Lunar Environment Illumination Analysis and Local Topography Influence, Mission Timeline and Scenario Definition and Analysis.

I have also had the opportunity to participate in various technical and management meetings, Payload assessment meetings, progress meetings.

Thanks to the high level of professional expertise within the Lunar Lander Project Team I have been introduced to various in-depth technical aspects of Space related projects

Apr–Oct 2010:                End of studies internship at the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales, Toulouse, France, Department of Planetology and Microgravity Projects

During this internship I was involved in two main projects:

First, a tradeoff analysis of existing GPR technologies and comparisons to the ExoMars Mission Wisdom Ground Penetrating Radar, where I have also been involved in the definition of the testing procedures for the Wisdom GPR with the purpose of demonstrating a technological spin-off for Avalanche Victims Search and Crevasse Localization using the aforementioned Radar technology.

The second project I was involved in, being my main assignment, has been a Mission Analysis Tradeoff for the Mars Sample Return Mission, considering various existing or potential technologies, different transfer scenarios for transfer windows ranging from mid 2030’s to mid 2040’s, different mission architectures involving single or multiple spacecraft, as well as the use of the Launch Vehicles envisaged for a fully European Mission, such as Soyuz, Ariane 5 ECA, or the future Ariane 5 ME.
