Education:

1997: Degree in Mechanical Engineering with full marks and honors (110/100 and laude) from University of Padova with a laurea dissertation on the development of a new mathematical model to study the dynamics of the Tethered Satellite System TSS-1R after tether failure.

2002: Ph.D in “Space Science and Technology” in 2003 with a thesis work on“Satellite Servicing with Orbiting Robots” conducted in collaboration with Alenia Spazio Torino.

 

Career summary:

1997 – 1998: Project engineer at Jofa s.r.l., a company developing high-tech electro-mechanic control systems for the most important Italian car producer.

August 1998 – March 2000: Facility engineer for Speedline s.p.a., leader in producing light alloy car wheels for the whole European market and part of AMCAST industrial corporation.

2002 - to date : Research fellow at CISAS “G. Colombo” University of Padova

2004 – to date : Adjunct Professor in Mechanical and Thermal Measurement at University of Padova

 

 

KEY EXPERIENCE

 

Main field of research is dynamics and thermal control of space systems with particular interest in scientific payloads for planetary missions, mechanical and thermal design of probes and mission data analysis .

He collaborated with the Huygens Descent Trajectory Working Group focusing on the reconstruction of Huygens probe entry and descent trajectory in Titan atmosphere through sensor fusion with extended Kalman filtering and with the Attitude Reconstruction Working Group which goal was the identification of attitude parameters during the parachuted descent of the Huygens probe

He was Mechanical and thermal design co-ordinator for HASI (Huygens Atmospheric Sructure Instrument) balloon flight campaigns in 2002 and 2003 as well for SORA ( Sounding Radar) flight campaign from Svalbard island in 2009

He was member of several thermal working groups in developing instrument for space missions.

Furthermore he collaborated to development, realisation and qualification of mechanical systems for the following scientific missions:

  • WAC : Wide Angle Camera for ESA Rosetta mission

  • PFS : Planetary Fourier Spectrometer for ESA Mars Express mission

  • HASI : Huygens Atmospheric Structure Instrument for NASA Huygens Cassini mission

  • IPSE : Italian Package for Scientific Experiments for Mars Sample Return missions

  • SIMBIO SYS : Scientific suite for ESA BEPICOLOMBO Mission

COMPUTER & PROGRAMMING SKILLS

 

More than 10 year experience with thermal modelling software ( ESATAN – TMS) and dynamic simulation software (MSC ADAMS).

Excellent skills with data analysis in MATLAB and SIMULINK.

Good knowledge of programming of LABVIEW based data acquisition systems

Very good knowledge of common office software and HTML editing.
