Main activities and responsibilities

Sentinel 2 Central Software Development – European Space Agency (ESA) and EADS-Astrium

Part of the Sentinel 2 Satellite Central Software Development team where we are responsible for creating the detailed design specification, code specification, and all the unit testing of the MSI (Multispectral Imagery), AOCS and Thermal Control on-board software.

The Sentinel-2 is a polar-orbiting, multispectral high-resolution imaging mission for GMES land monitoring to provide, for example, imagery of vegetation, soil and water cover, inland waterways and coastal areas. Sentinel-2 will also provide information for emergency services. The first Sentinel-2 satellite is planned for launch at the end of 2012.

Main tasks:

  - Detailed Design for the MSI, AOCS and Thermal Control components;

  - Development of the on-board software for the MSI component;

  - Development and specification of the MSI and AOCS unit tests.

Demonstration of xLuna on an Autonomous Rover - European Space Agency

The xLuna project aims at extending an existing free/open-source kernel making it fit for use in on-board space applications, both for payloads and avionics. The rationale behind xLuna is to supply the European Space industry with a reliable Linux based kernel that can be used for both payload and avionics applications. It will include features such as standard programming interfaces (e.g. POSIX), co-existence of real and non real time tasks, and context isolation.

The goal of this project is to test and demonstrate the xLuna system in a real scenario.

Main tasks:

-Development and specification of performance tests.

Phileas – Guidance Control System - APTS

Phileas is a vehicle concept developed by APTS. The purpose of the guidance control system (GCS) is to control the vehicle motion in semi-automatic mode. It performs precision docking on the raised platforms and automatic steering on routes specifically prepared for this purpose. In these routes, a trail of magnetic reference markers has been laid in the road surface. Automatic steering and precision docking makes it possible to stop with a constant minimal distance between the door thresholds and the platform edge. The result is a flush step alignment enabling passengers to quickly enter and exit the bus, thus limiting stop times and keeping the average speed as high as possible. Critical Software has been working alongside APTS in the Guidance Control System software. The GCSW is an high integrity software and has to respect the demanding safety standards applicable to railways solutions of this kind. High software SIL levels must be achieved.

Main tasks:

- CanOpen protocol requirement specification respecting SIL 3;

 -CanOpen architecture specification respecting SIL 3 requirements.

 -J1939 protocol requirement specification;

 -J1939 architecture specification.

SWARM - ESA's magnetic field mission Swarm - European Space Agency

The objective of the Swarm mission is to provide the best ever survey of the geomagnetic field and its temporal evolution, and gain new insights into improving our knowledge of the Earth’s interior and climate.

-Code reviews according to the established process.

 

 

XPY – Monitoring and Profiling Tool for Space Software – European Space Agency

The XPY coverage tool provides non-intrusive code coverage and profiling analysis tool for the SPARC/ERC32 processor currently used by ESA.

This tool targets all the applications for the ERC32 platform that must be tested for coverage implementing an automated coverage analysis over the original non-instrumented code.

The retrieved coverage metrics were:

-Statement Coverage;

-Decision Coverage;

-MCDC, that is required by the DO-178B standard.
