Project Work

I was involved in the Student parabolic flight campaign with the European Space Agency in July 2005 in Bordeaux, France. This involved testing a design for a solar kite unfurling in zero gravity once released by the launch vehicle.

My individual project for my degree was to design a mission to a near Earth asteroid to analyse the various characteristics of the asteroid. This involved the complete mission design including the orbit trajectory, propulsion subsystem, thermal subsystem, power subsystem, communications subsystem and the associated budgets.

My final year group project was designing a mission to place a rover on the Moon’s surface. This project was quite detailed and involved the design of all parts of the mission including launch selection, transfer vehicle design, rover design and all the subsystems required.

All of these projects went very well and had successful results.

Interests and Hobbies

Squash, Mountain Biking, Music, Travel, Science.

Responsibilities & Achievements

I have successfully completed a student parabolic flight campaign with the European Space Agency (ESA) in July 2005. This involved designing an experiment which needed to be tested in microgravity and then had to be selected from teams across Europe and Canada. Our team experiment was to test and validate the unfurling sequence of a solar kite, using sprung steel hinges as designed by Kingston University and Oxford Mathematical Designs.
