Organised and attended Ground Segment Coordination Body meetings ; Coordinated the UK Ground Segment working group ; Defined the UKSA's strategy for EO Ground Segments ; Promoted the UKSA's strategy to the UK Ground Segment industry, to ESA and to other Member States Agencies.

 

Oct 2008 (to date) Earth Observation Systems Engineer - Astrium Satellites, Portsmouth, UK

3 ½ years experience as an EO Systems Engineer in the Earth Observation, Navigation and Science BU. Worked on end-to-end SAR data delivery systems from instrument design to end user services. Contributed to several proposals (in various roles including technical lead and bid manager).

Feb 2011 – May 2011 Sentinel-5 Precursor Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS) Phase A/B1

Performed the specification and architecture design of the S5p PDGS (based on the ESA MMFI system). Modelled the system in Rhapsody (UML).

 

Feb 2011 – Dec 2011 Sentinel-1 Calibration and Performance Analysis Facility (CPAF)

Developed calibration and performance analysis algorithms for ESTEC for the validation of the S-1 SAR instrument during the Commissioning Phase.

 

Mar 2009 (to date) Sentinel-1 Payload Data Ground Segment (PDGS)

Work package manager: responsible for the Quality Control subsystem (SAR system Calibration & Validation and performance): Wrote the technical proposal ; Defined the functional breakdown & interfaces ; Performed the system specification ; Generated the Best Practice Procurement ITT documents ; Took part in the Tender Evaluation Board ; Performed the engineering management of the Quality Control subsystem from design to validation (on-going). Contributed to the system level PDGS design decisions (member of the Integrated Project Team).

 

Nov 2008 - Feb 2009 Galileo Ground Control Segment (GCS)

Designed the configuration of the file transfer software (GFTS). Installation, integration and dry-runs at the Ground Control Centre (DLR, Germany).

 

Oct 2008 (to date) ENVISAT ASAR Instrument Support to Operations

Recalibration & performance optimisation of ASAR for ENVISAT’s change of orbit (Oct 2010): generation of the new on-board timeline parameters for all swaths. Attended all Instrument Operational Performance meetings for the last 3 ½ years (in-orbit support), performing analyses in support to Operations (anomaly investigation, performance optimisation).

 

Feb 2010 Apr 2010 Sentinel-1 SAR Electronics Subsystem (SES) Assembly, Integration & Testing

Supported the S-1 instrument AIT: developed a Java-based tool for the conversion of the on-board Radar Database from Excel spreadsheets to SCOS-2000 Manual Stacks.

 

Oct 2008 - Mar 2009  Biomass / SEOSAR-1 / ASAR

For these 3 missions, carried out instrument modelling, mission analyis, performance optimisation analyses & design trade-offs.

Graduate Development Programme: 6 months placement in Manufacturing – Process Improvements: solely responsible for 3 PI projects, all involving gathering and managing conflicting requirements from a range of stakeholders:
