Astronaut Support Engineer - employed by MEDES seconded to European Space Agency (ESA), European Astronaut Centre, Cologne, Germany

  • In cooperation with NASA and Russian partners, development and implementation of crew support for European astronauts during long duration space flights to the International Space Station (ISS).  Areas of responsibility:
    • Space food: menu development and supervision of manufacturing process of European food
    • Clothing: selection of the suppliers, coordination of certification process and provisioning via cargo vehicles
    • Crew web page: daily uplink to the ISS of  content per crew preference
    • Crew conferences: scheduling and implementation of weekly video conferences with families, friends and colleagues
    • Crew care packages: coordination with families of items to be delivered onboard
    • Launch and landing campaigns: coordination of ESA delegation and of crew support on site in Russia and Kazakhstan
    • Onboard personal data, personal items, comfort equipment
  • In cooperatiom with NASA, provision of crew support during STS-128 and STS-134 Space Shuttle launch campaigns

Project Manager – employed by MEDES seconded to French Space Agency (CNES), Toulouse, France

  •  ‘’Vibrio” - an international project involving countries of Mediterranean basin based on the use of satellite tools for cholera epidemics outbreak prediction, management and prevention.
  • “SAFE” - use of satellite technologies for health early warning systems and epidemics management, e.g. tuberculosis, crisis medicine. Establishment of an operational model and performance of cost and benefit analysis.
  • Feasibility study of the use of space tools for natural resource management
  •  Writing of proposals in responce to European Commission and European Space Agency requests
