PROJECTS:            

Spacecraft and Mission Design, Capstone Course, WPI, January 2013 - March 2013

Successfully led the preliminary design of a high-resolution imaging mission of the Martian moon Phobos. Performed analysis of the propulsion, power, structure, attitude determination and control (ADC) spacecraft subsystems, in addition to launch vehicle selection.

 

Major Qualifying Project (MQP), Design and Analysis of a CubeSat Mission, WPI, September 2012 - March 2013

Worked in a multidisciplinary team that in collaboration with the NASA Goddard Spaceflight Center and the Polish Academy of sciences designed a 3U CubeSat. Worked toward accomplishing the mission goal is to perform solar X-ray spectroscopy using the Sphinx-NG instrument, the tentative launch date is 2016. Conducted the orbital decay analysis of the satellite using the Satellite Toolkit (STK) and the NASA Debris Assessment Software.

 

Research Internship, Aerospace Engineering Department, WPI, June - August, 2012 

Performed research in the field of turbomachinery at the WPI Gas Turbine Laboratory. Obtained data from experimental studies performed on flow control in compressors during the past 10 years, in an attempt to establish whether the benefit of flow control offsets the efficiency penalty. Used the obtained data to perform a cycle analysis of a generic two-shaft turbofan engine using the GSP cycle analysis software from the NLR (Dutch Aerospace Laboratory). Concluded that with modern flow control techniques a vane count reduction can be achieved without an efficiency penalty. The results will be published in the ASME Journal of Propulsion and Power: “The Impact of Flow Control on Compressor Efficiency”, a paper co-authored by Professor Simon Evans and Nicolas Martinez.

Interactive Qualifying Project (IQP), Energy-from-Waste in Brent, London, UK, January - April, 2012

Worked in an interdisciplinary team of four people. Assessed the feasibility of implementing energy -from-waste (EfW) program as a possible solution to the unsustainable waste management situation in the London Borough of Brent. Evaluated such aspects as technical, political, environmental, economic and social implications of EfW. Presented a report with the team’s conclusions and recommendations to the Council. Revised the local development plan to include the team’s recommendations in future planning policy.

 

Research Internship, Physics Department, WPI, July - September, 2011

Performed research in the field of protein dynamics using the technique of Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy. Studied the dielectric properties of heme proteins such as Myoglobin and Neuroglobin. Designed and constructed a new capacitor sample cell for testing of protein solutions in the order of µL, resulting in a more efficient way of approaching experimentation with recently discovered and expensive proteins.
