Professional Experience:

 

Satellite Systems Engineer – Mission Planner

Northrop Grumman – Chandra X-ray Observatory                                                       2006-present

As Mission Planner, scheduled day-to-day activities on-board the spacecraft; planned and created stored command sequence loads for all house-keeping activities and scientific observations; conducted integration and regression tests for all new software and software updates. As Command Manager, created and verified command loads for uplink to the spacecraft. As Mission Scheduler, coordinated and scheduled supports with the Deep Space Network (DSN) utilizing DSN assets; acted as liaison between Jet Propulsion Laboratories (JPL) and Chandra Flight Operations Team (FOT), implementing and testing the Service Preparation Subsystem (SPS) and the SPS Tigras scheduling software. Developed a comprehensive regression test plan for the testing of new software releases; and led the Mission Planning team’s regression and functional testing of new software releases.

 

Senior Operations Controller                                                                                              

Northrop Grumman – Chandra X-ray Observatory                                                          1998-2006

Senior Operations Controller (OC) on the Chandra Flight Operations Team (FOT), responsible for commanding the satellite and monitoring telemetry. As OC, direct the execution of commanding per approved support plans; monitor telemetry; and implement approved contingency procedures, as required. Off-console procedural duties include: create and update operations procedures, scripts, and displays; develop and present operations training; write problem reports and participate in the investigation and resolution of said problems. Provide support to the engineering staff during anomaly resolution. Conduct the daily operations meeting, providing the Daily Operations Report to NASA, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), and FOT. As shift supervisor, review crew performance and provide input for personnel evaluations. Interface directly with JPL and DSN. Direct DSN activities during supports, and coordinate contingency supports with JPL. Performed pre-launch and launch activities as member of Chandra launch team. Developed tools used during launch, during On-Orbit Activation and Checkout (OAC), and during normal day-to-day operations. Selected as a member of the Avionics Software Validation Test (ASVT) support team as an ASVT operator/maintainer. Selected to be a member of the DSN scheduling team. Lead FOT representative for the Chandra Operations Control Center during non-business hours.

 

Senior Satellite Network Controller                                                                            

United States Army Space and Missle Defense Command                                                                           1990-1998

Senior Satellite Network Controller/ Shift Supervisor for DoD satellite control system vital to national security. Managed Defense Satellite Communication System Operational Support Subsystem and Defense Satellite Communication System Network Planning Software. Trained and oversaw the conduct of soldiers. Operated and maintained satellite control equipment. Used spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, frequency generators, network scalar/analyzer, power meters, bit error test sets, and other equipment in the troubleshooting of satellite communications ground equipment. Assisted in the troubleshooting and configuring of Defense Support Program (DSP) circuits. Conducted operations testing of the MILSTAR communications satellite constellation for the United States Air Force. Interfaced directly with satellite communications terminal operators, civilian contractors, and several Department of Defense agencies.
