Personal Statement

I am a creative-minded, charismatic individual with a technical engineering background seeking to utilise my project management, music industry knowledge and leadership skills to drive and inspire a like-minded team within a fast-paced and exciting new corporate environment. I have previously worked in the public sector for the Ministry of Defence in equipment procurement where I assisted in long term project delivery for various systems. I have undertaken several work placements as part of the Defence Engineering Science Group (DESG) graduate scheme spanning from hands on engineering work to project management support in an office environment. My working contributions have been published in HM Government's Blackett Review on the Internet of Things. Alongside this, I have produced successful music records; dealing with indie and major labels in launching my releases and with established music industry stakeholders and magazines (online and print) for marketing.

Experience

2012 – 2013; Engineering graduate at MOD, Abbey Wood (Defence Ordnance Safety Group)
I was responsible for the delivery of safety advice for a particular weapon system to a host of defence stakeholders including MBDA, Thales, The British Armed Forces and Foreign Air Forces. During this role:

  • I presented my calculated findings to a room of high ranking military personnel and corporate stakeholders including Wing Commanders and Colonels from various British and Foreign Forces.
  • I organised my own meetings and travelled across the country to liaise with technical staff that could provide solutions to complex problems, thus saving company money.

2014 – Present; Researcher in Defence and Security Team, Government Office of Science
Here, myself and my team are responsible for researching new trends in technologies that pose threats and opportunities to the UK public domain; building reports for review by the Government Chief Scientific Advisor (GCSA MP Sir Mark Walport) and providing secretarial assistance to my Line Manager. During this role:

  • I volunteered to create posters for the office floor to celebrate 50 years since the first GCSA was elected which were commended by attending MPs, and ran science activities for the children’s play-scheme.
  • Chaired editorial meetings for reports that would go on to be reviewed by PM David Cameron and eventually be published for public viewing.

Other work experience:
I have worked with Defence contractors QinetiQ where I was tasked with running environmental and field trials on weapons and munitions, and producing graphical reports on their performances.

BEng (Hons.) Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University of Birmingham, 2009 – 2012
Achieved 2:1 level degree, including an award for the most improved undergraduate.

MSc Explosive Ordnance Engineering, Cranfield University – Shrivenham Defence Academy 2013 – 2014 (Still awaiting exact results/graduation ceremony)

Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College; 2007 – 2009

Hobbies and Interests

I am an avid music producer and DJ – my productions have been featured on public radio stations in the UK and abroad, including BBC Radio 1/1xtra, XFM, Capital Xtra, Rinse.FM and many more. I have featured in print and online magazines including Mixmag, Dazed and Confused, Fader and NME. I enjoy designing artistic webpages to market my music and building my network of contacts within music.
Video gaming is another passion of mine – I am a fan of role playing game series such as Final Fantasy and Diablo, where worlds and textures are vast and stimulating, and decision making can be pivotal to the outcome. I am fascinated by deep space, posibilities of time travel and dimension theory.
I love to travel and am an amateur photographer.
