Summary

Througought my carrer I have developed a dual scientific and engineering profile by combining highly technical activities such as spacecraft operations (e.g.: Mars Express, Rosetta, Deimos 2) with a continuous scientific and academical activities at different Universities (I am a PhD candidate on Cometary Science).
I studied a MSc in Astrophysics with a postgraduate specialization on Substellar and Small Objects. Currently, I work at the European Space Agency at the science ground segment of the Mars Express mission.

Mars Express Science Operations Engineer

09/2016-Present  - Aurora for European Space Agency

Defining and maintaining an overall scientific plan and specific science planning operations in cooperation with the Project Scientist and the Principal Citizenship Investigators. Coordinating the process between the Instrument Teams and the mission operation center teams.

Co-author of the "Independent confirmation of a methane spike on Mars and a source region east of Gale Crater", Nat. Geosci. 12, 326–332 (2019).

             

Rosetta Science Ground Segment Engineer
06/2015-09/2016  - Aurora for European Space Agency

Creation and delivery of the consolidated operational requests to the mission operations center. Collection of the planning inputs from the Principal Investigators Teams.

Member of the End of Mission operations team.

ESA award for "Rosetta team achievement award"

 

Project Engineer
03/2013-06/2015 - Deimos Castilla la Mancha

Member of the Deimos 2 Operations Team working on Payload Data (image processing, calibration and validation) subsystem during LEOP and commisioning. In addition followed activities on:
Space radiation, charging and optical simulations.
AIT: Cleaning room assistant following ECSS procedures.
Preparation of technical space documentation and performance of relevant

Successful launch of the Deimos-2 Earth Observation Satellite.

 

Trainee

07/2010-10/2010 - ESAC summer traineer. (Spain)

Project with the Meteor Research Group (main science interests are to understand the distribution of dust in the solar system and to link their physical properties to their parent body). The aim of the project was to contrast orbit data obtained from different calculation methods to reconstruct orbits around the Sun from stereo observations.

12/2008-06/2010  - Carlo Gavazzi Space S.A. (Milan, Italy)  

Carlo Gavazzi Space was in charge of the coordination of the student micro-satellite mission to Low Earth Orbit for the ESA education department. I was the coordinator of the Mission Analysis team developing the Mission design for Phase A.

 

Trainee at SSETI Express and ESEO satellite development

05/2004-09/2007 - University of Zaragoza.  (Spain)

Mission Analysis member for the SSETI Expess satellite and the ESEO micro-satellite. SSETI Express and ESEO were Earth orbiting micro-satellites launched by ESA's Education Office ton acquire images and test technologies for future education missions

2017-Present    University Complutense of Madrid (UCM)

PhD directed by Dr. Michel Kueppers (ESA) with the OSIRIS Rosetta team.

The OSIRIS scientific imaging system was built by a consortium led by the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (Germany) in collaboration with many other institutions over Europe.

The thesis will describe the evolution of the cometary dust population over the Rosetta mission. The main goal is to derive particle size distributions and to determine if traces of the size distribution of primordial pebbles are still present in today’s cometary dust.

 

2013-2015 Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)
