    My Research and Development Expertise and Experience

    I have over 21 years of research experience in wireless radio communications (includes my Ph. D. tenure) and recent years in smart grids areas, from 1995 to present.

    I have expertise in the research, design and innovation of new technologies for:

    Wireless mobile devices to improve the service quality for mobile phones users.

    Telecommunications base station and relay station (using multiple antennas) to improve the energy efficiency for telecommunication systems and networks.

    Modelling of wireless fading channels for future wireless radio communication systems and internet-of-things (IoT).

    I have expertise in mathematical analysis, probability and statistics, modelling and optimization, which I applied in research to design and develop new engineering solutions, analysis and performance evaluation of telecommunication systems and networks.

    I have many years of programming experience and knowledge in using various programming languages.  These include the MATLAB/Simulink, R for statistics, LABVIEW for digital signal processing, C, Fortran, Phyton, and specialist computational software CVX, to perform analysis, simulation, and improve the design of telecommunication systems and networks.

    I also have very good technical writing and presentation skills.  Throughout my career, I have been promoting educational and technical advancement of telecommunications and wireless radio communications disciplines.  I did that through writing, lecturing in the university, supervising PhD and Master students in engineering, presenting and publishing my research works in international reputable scientific conferences and journals.

    I also have very good planning and time management skills, and I am able to manage multidisciplinary or cross functional engineering or technical projects.

    I have over 17 years of experience in supervising, and advising postgraduate and undergraduate research students in the wireless cellular radio communications and smart grids subject areas, from 1999 to present.

    4 Ph.D.  and 7 Master Degree candidates have graduated under my supervision.

    I have 12 years of teaching experience in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore, and conducted 2 postgraduate courses for Master and Ph.D. candidates, from 2001 to 2012. 

    Nominated for Innovative Teaching / Best Teaching in years 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2008.

    Cooling network optimization with integrated battery and thermal energy storage

    Awarded S$2.5 million research grant from the Singapore National Research Foundation.

    To develop intelligent adaptive algorithm and controller to adjust electricity consumption of the Singapore Central Business District cooling network (through chilled water supply to the buildings) by optimizing and adapting to the cooling load, electricity price and heterogeneous energy sources (power grid, battery, thermal storage).  The main objective is to prevent potential overloading and enable demand response.

    Residential demand-side optimization

    To develop adaptive and distributed electricity and energy scheduling schemes for residential homes to reduce centralized computational loads. 

    Leading and collaborating with a team of engineering researchers, computer and data analytic scientists in the R&D of building energy optimization, and demand-side optimization.
