    Project Leader of the Microgravity Product Line which was aimed at designing and developing facilities and subsystems needed to support the execution of microgravity experiments on board the International Space Station and FOTON/BION capsules. The following main responsibilities have been covered in this time-frame:

    Member of the Industrial Team responsible for the design and development of Mice Drawer System (MDS), an Italian Space Agency (ASI) funded facility able to support scientific investigations on board the International Space Station ( ISS). Main tasks during the MDS program were:

    Translation of scientific requirements defined by the Principal Investigator (PI) into engineering requirements for the development of the facility.

    Responsible for the definition of “Biosafety protocols and procedures” to be submitted to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). This responsibility implied the management of technical issues as well as planning and cost control

    Interface between NASA and the P.I. for standard procedures identification and scientific protocol drawing up and submission.

    Responsible for pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight scientific operations definition and drawing up.

    Responsible for the crew training for nominal and contingency MDS operations at JSC crew training facility (October 2008).

    Mice Drawer System launch operations test campaign and preparation with STS 128 at Kennedy Space Centre  - Cape Canaveral USA – from August 3rd to September 3rd, 2009

    Mice Drawer System landing operations test campaign and preparation with STS 129 at Kennedy Space Centre - Cape Canaveral USA –from November 22nd to December 5th , 2009

    During the MDS in-flight operations, support to the P.I. science team from the Payload Support Centre (PSC) based in the Milan plant for all the nominal and contingency activities performed by the astronauts.

    Project leader of TSP (Tissue Sharing Program), funded by ASI which involved several Principal Investigators from ASI, ESA, NASA and JAXA. Aim of this program was to exploit as much as possible scientific information acquired during the MDS flight and to manage the collection and the shipment of samples to the relevant Research Institutes located worldwide.   

    Member of the Industrial Team responsible for the Phase A/B of Mice In Space (MIS), a European Space Agency (ESA) funded facility able to support scientific investigations on board the Russian BION spacecraft. Main tasks during the MIS program were:

    Responsible for interfaces between the international Facility Science Team, the Russian Institute for Bio Medical Problems (IBMP) and the Industrial Team for the definition and analyses of scientific requirements and operations related to pre-flight, flight and post-landing activities.

    Participation to MIS technical meeting held at ESA and at Moscow

    Support to the design and development of the MIS Modular Science Reference Module (MSRM) able to support representative on-ground testing

    Co-ordination and support to the Leuven University for the execution of several test sessions using the Modular Science Reference Module (MSRM)

    Member of the Industrial Team responsible for the design and development of the Nematode Experiment Hardware, a European Space Agency (ESA) founded program aimed at developing a bioreactor able to sustain the growth of four subsequent generations of micro-organisms on board the International Space Station (ISS). Main tasks during the Nematode program were:

    Translation of scientific requirements defined by the Principal Investigator into engineering requirements for the development of the equipment

    Definition of the scientific protocol and of pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight scientific operations 

    Both the above responsibilities implied the management of technical issues as well as planning and cost control

    Project leader of Multiwell-AC  Experiment Hardware able to perform bio-dosimetry of cosmic radiation using cell cultures. This project was part of the program From MOlecule to MAn (MOMA) funded by Italian Space Agency (ASI). The Multiwell-AC has been designed in order to be integrated in the Biolab facility of the Columbus European Module.

    This responsibility implied the management of technical issues as well as  planning and cost control
