    April 2010 – November 2010

    GE Oil & Gas – Nuovo Pignone – Florence

    Via Felice Matteucci, 2

    Thesis on the implementation of a fast response aerodynamic pressure probe on a centrifugal compressor test rig. As part of the R&D team, I was in charge of the arrangement/implementation of the test rig devoted to the performance anaysis of a centrifugal compressor. By collecting the data acquired during the machine functioning at different power conditions, it was possible to define, by writing Matlab routins, the pressure, the velocity and the direction of the flow field upstream/downstream the compressor blades. Furthermore, the turbolent kinetic energy could be derived.  I had the opportunity to cooperate with specialized workers and with the engineers also by attending the progress meetings.

    March 2012 – December 2016

    FINMECCANICA – Nerviano (MI)

    Viale Europa snc

    Test engineer: responsible of all the qualification activities related to the DVT (Design Verification Test), SCA (Solar Cell Assembly) and SDA (Solar Diode Assembly) lot acceptance test. In particular, I have taken care of Thales France programs (Sentinel 3, Exomars Confidence coupon, Exomars OMB, HR Eos and CSO), Dutch Space programs (EarthCARE and MPCV), Sentinel5Precursor (SpaceTech Immenstaad) and of Meteosat Third Generation (Airbus-D), that is the first GEO satellite acquired by Leonardo. I performed the thermal vacuum acceptance test of the following FM models: Sentinel5Precursor at Intespace-Toulouse premises, Nemo (a Canadian program which includes also mechanical tests) and Kalifasat at Intespace - Elancourt test facility.

    I have qualified the bonding process, the 80um and 20um thickness SCA and the DVT related to the R&D program Ultrathin.

    As test engineer, I dealt with test plan, test report and non-conformances drawing up. Being in close cooperation with the project leader, the PA manager and the PM of the aforementioned programs, I had to learn the European specification for the space sector (ECSS for the testing, design and quality levels) and for the space components (ESCC – for instance for wires and connectors) and also the design and management aspects.

    I arranged the test set-up, attended the electrical checks and activities performed on the hardware. Furthermore, I collected and analyzed from a critical point of view the data acquired.

    I was always in contact by e-mail/phone with the test facility such as ESTEC (Noordwijk), Intespace (Toulouse), STI (Immenstaad), Spasolab (Madrid), GEVA (Berlin) in order to schedule the testing, manage the timing between the in-house activities and the test facility availability. I prepared the documentation for the test, I was actively present in the frame of the meetings (for instance Test Readiness Review) and therefore, I taken part of the test (test set-up arranging, changing of the test set-up, recovery actions in case of unexpected events, and so on).

    I performed and I was also responsible of the acceptance test and fine tuning of ambient pressure thermal chambers at GEVA and at Leonardo and of thermal vacuum chambers at STI and Leonardo premises.

    Beside the aforementioned activities, I attended meetings and reviews in the frame of the programs most important phases.

    Project leader:

    Starting from 2015 I became the project leader of the following programs:

    NEXTSat-1, a KAIST program;

    C-SAT, a STI and ADSF program;

    Prisma, an Italian program;

    MPCV (ESA, NASA and ADSN) program.

    This roll gave me the opportunity to go deeper into details about the PVA design and to implement what I learnt the previous years. I had the technical responsibility of the solar array design, that means technical specification analyzing, requirement satisfaction (power, reliability, mass budget, de-rating, vibrational mode and so on) and providing solution to the costumer (e.g. front/rear side layout and hardware modification).

    Furthermore, I managed the supplier for the procurement of the parts and materials, I supervised the clean room activities. I was deputized for doing the job of the official Program Manager, in order to organize the milestones meetings, to manage the manufacturing activities and testing phases. I provided technical support to the Product Assurance Manager in the frame of the NRB.

    January 2017 - today

    SpaceTech GmbH - STI

    Seelbachstr. 13 D-88090 Immenstaad

    Actually, I am working in a smaller company (85 employees coming from 15 different countries) than Leonardo S.p.A.

    I am playing two main roles in this new adventure:

    Direct interface between Leonardo (as PVA supplier) and STI (costumer): thanks to the gained experience, to the Italian mother tongue language and to the good relationship with my previous colleagues, I have been involved in different programs (such as Sentinel-5 precursor, Sentinel-6, C-SAT, Euclid SSH, NGSAR and Space-IL) for technical support, program scheduling, problem-solving and direct contact of the STI-Leonardo relationship and relevant activities.

    Beside the role of supplier focal point, I provided the experience gained in the past being involved firsthand in the Design, Manufacturing Readiness, Test Readiness, Delivery, Non Conformance, Management review, and other critical meetings/tlc.

    Member of the team responsible of the PVA manufacturing line development.

    In addition to what above described, I gave my support in performing mechanical test on deployment system, thermal vacuum and ambient tests (relevant electrical checks as well) on flight PVA, test coupons, CESS (Coarse Earth Sun Sensor) and PVA single components such as solar cell and blocking diodes.

    Furthermore, working in a more international working environment I had the opportunity to improve my communicational skills and the ability of being adapt to multicultural environments.
