Job description
Thermal System Engineer will be part of Flight Physics and Simulations Department and join our rapidly growing Team. As a member of our design organization (DO) you will play a crucial role in the Design, Analysis and Optimization of key Systems installed on our Aircrafts.
What will your tasks be?
- Design and Development of a wide range of Thermal Management Systems (TMS) (Conventional/Electric Powertrain Cooling Systems (P-CS), Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS), Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Powertrains, Environmental Control Systems (ECS) and air-conditioning (A/C) etc.) from the Conceptual Design to the Integration and Entry into Service phases;
- Active participation in a broad spectrum of applications and Aircrafts’ Development such as Conventional, Hybrid and Electric Aircrafts, Experimental Prototypes and serial production for Fixed Wing Aircrafts and VTOLs;
- Implementation and leveraging of advanced Thermal Simulation (0D – CFD) tools (using both Commercial Software and Internally developed codes and algorithms) to perform analyses to drive the design and the validation of TMS;
- Supervise the development and integration of the 3D CAD models of the System and its components;
- Collaborate with the Testing Teams (Ground and Flight Test) to plan and conduct Testing activities to validate the Design and verify the performance of different TMS;
- Preparation of detailed Technical Documentation (Analysis and Simulation results, procedures, Test Plan/Reports, Project Deliverables, etc.);
- Working closely with other Departments (Electrical, Mechanical, Airworthiness etc.) to integrate thermal solutions into the overall design of the aircraft. Address thermal challenges at various stages of projects’ development;
- Assist in the Suppliers’ Selection and Management.
What do we expect from the candidate?
- MSc or PhD degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or a related field;
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in the field of Thermal Management Systems such as:
- Thermal or Electric Powertrain CS;
- Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS);
- Environmental Control System and/or Air Conditioning;
- Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Powertrain.
- Strong Thermal Engineering Background (Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid-Dynamic);
- Proficiency with System Level (0-D/1-D) Modelling and Simulation tools (AMEsim, Simscape, Modelica etc.). Basic understanding of Aerodynamics and CFD knowledge is preferred;
- Experience with Electronics Thermal Management Systems Design and Development is preferred (Heat Sinks, Heat Pipes etc.);
- Experience with 3D CAD and engineering design tools (preferably SolidWorks);
- Hands-on experience in Prototyping, Testing and Validation of Thermal Systems (ideally for aerospace settings);
- Excellent problem solving, communication and collaboration skills, precise and patient character;
- Proactive and able to work with a minimum of supervision;
- Strong ability to think out of the box;
- Hands-on attitude;
- Understanding of programming languages (preferably Python);
- Fluent English language skills.
