Your mission

For Thales Alenia Space in Switzerland, located in Zurich, we are looking for a Senior Optical Engineer to contribute to the development of optical systems for space applications.

The ideal candidate has worked on the development of reflective and refractive optical systems, with a strong design and simulation and has some experience in stray light analysis.

Conceptual design, including trade-offs
First order optical design
Detailed optical design, including aberrations and physical optical properties
Definition of optical specifications, including tolerances
Tolerance analysis
Stray light analysis
Support for STOP analysis process (Structural-Thermal-Optical-Performance analysis)
Coating design support
Polarization and transmission analysis
Preparation of technical documentation such as design and analysis reports, specification documents, technical proposal volumes
Optical system integration and test support
Definition and guidance for qualification processes of optical components according to applicable standards.
Collaboration in a multidisciplinary team, e.g. for mechanical, opto-mechanical, thermal and electro-optical aspects.
Contribute to product design configuration maintenance (EBOM).
Liaise with line manager and project core team

We look forward to that

You hold a Bachelor or Master Degree in Physics or equivalent with relevant experience in optical system design and development or similar position in optical device design and simulation
You will have a minimum of 5+ years of industry experience (space industry experience is a plus)
Good knowledge of the Zemax simulation tool
Knowledge of CodeV is an advantage
Experience in optical communication terminals development is of advantage
Basic knowledge of stray light analysis
Knowledge of ASAP or FRED is preferred
Strong conceptual and analytical skills
Strong communication skills and ability to work in an international environment
Problem solving attitude
Ability to communicate fluently in written and spoken English
Knowledge of German is an advantage
High level of self-motivation and commitment
Strong sense of responsibility and dependability
