We are seeking a highly skilled AIT Engineer to join our Systems team in Barcelona. As an AIT Engineer, you will be responsible for the layout, assembly and integration planning, interface definition, accessibility and maintainability planning, planning of ground handling operations, etc. of launch vehicle propulsion systems and in-space chemical propulsion systems.

You will work closely with the other teams at the company, such as the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Systems Department Performance Team, as well as with the individual subsystem owners, to ensure that all relevant factors have been taken into account when it comes to the envisioned layout of the engine system, such as e.g. the effects on nearby components, the expected environment at the location, the accessibility of a certain components, the intended procedure for assembly and the available facilities and support equipment to do so, the logistics of the transport of the subsystems and components, etc.

This role requires good visualization and problem-solving skills, and the ability to keep several competing requirements in your mind simultaneously and come up with a suitable compromise. You would be working on all product lines being developed at Pangea Aerospace, including launch vehicle engines and in-space propulsion systems, and you would also be working on multiple different projects relating to these products.

You would be the lead AIT engineer at the company, and as such you are expected to bring relevant knowledge into the company, and you would also be expected to be able to take independent decisions and define your own work to a degree.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define the overall layout of the engines being developed, such as deciding the physical relative placement of the subsystems e.g. the turbine, gas generator, actuators, valves, exhaust ports, anti-pogo lines, catalyst housings, etc.
  • Identify and conceptually define the interfaces between the various subsystems, e.g. flanged fluidic interfaces, brackets, quick-releases, access ports, thermal interfaces, etc.
  • Manage the interfaces between subsystems and creating and updating the relevant ICDs (Interface Control Documents).
  • Support the definition of the engine ground handling operations, such as e.g. integration and maintenance.
  • Contribute to configuration management of the products.
  • Plan and document assembly, integration, and test activities for the propulsion systems.
  • Develop test procedures and validation plans for launch vehicle and in-space propulsion systems.
  • Support the system-level and sub-system-level verification and validation.
  • Support the testing activities where relevant.
  • Support design and manufacturing teams in transitioning propulsion components from development to production.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration and test issues to ensure flight readiness.
  • Collaborate with launch operations teams to ensure seamless vehicle integration and testing.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of integration and test results for regulatory and internal review.
  • Work with the rest of the teams, e.g. the propulsion and testing teams, to define and ensure proper and safe operations of the engine on ground.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in assembly, integration, and testing within the field of aeronautics or aerospace.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools, preferably Siemens NX, for design review and modification.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as ECSS and MIL standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and test procedures.
  • Full fluency in English

Other useful skills:

  • Hands-on experience with chemical propulsion systems, including cryogenic, hypergolic, and monopropellant thrusters.
  • Experience with rocket engine testing, hot-fire tests, or vacuum chamber testing.
  • Understanding of spacecraft propulsion systems beyond launch vehicles, such as reaction control systems (RCS) or orbital maneuvering systems.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and handling of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of fluid systems, valves, regulators, pressure vessels, and associated ground support equipment.
  • Experience working with PLM software, preferably Siemens Teamcenter.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements such as EASA or CNES launch regulations.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools (Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project requirements.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and French is a plus.
