AIT FGSE Engineer

The Exploration Company

Munich, Germany

We are seeking an experienced AIT FGSE Engineer to be responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of fluidic ground support systems used during spacecraft assembly, integration, and test operations. This includes systems for propellant loading, pressure testing, and fluid line conditioning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and develop fluidic ground support equipment (e.g., pressure panels, pump carts, fluid test benches, purge and fill systems) for spacecraft integration and test campaigns. This can include FGSE for propulsion purposes, thermal/pressure test purposes or any kind of domain.
  • Support the assembly and integration of FGSE components, including piping, valves, regulators, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Prepare detailed technical documentation including P&IDs, design specifications, assembly drawings, test procedures, and operation manuals.
  • Collaborate with systems, propulsion, design and test engineers to define FGSE interface requirements and ensure compatibility with spacecraft fluidic systems.
  • Support the activities in the clean room to any kind of tests involving these FGSE (propulsion, thermal ...). If needed, lead these kinds of activities.
  • Provide lessons learned and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and execute verification and validation activities, including pressure, leak, and functional testing of FGSE.
  • Support spacecraft fueling operations and hazardous fluid handling with strong adherence to safety protocols.
  • Provide technical support during launch campaign activities, including troubleshooting and real-time issue resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant space standards, codes, and internal quality control processes.
  • Support AIT and MGSE teams if needed (depending on the workload on FGSE) in mechanical design, assembly or testing activities.

What we would love to see from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in fluid systems engineering or ground support equipment in the aerospace industry.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and mechanical design principles.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., NX, SolidWorks, CATIA) and fluid simulation/analysis software is a plus.
  • Experience with high- and low-pressure fluid systems, hazardous fluids (e.g., hydrazine, nitrogen tetroxide), and cryogenics is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with aerospace cleanliness standards, pressure systems safety protocols, and leak detection techniques.
  • Familiarity with Swagelok or other similar fluid system products.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Hands-on experience in cleanroom or test environments is a strong asset.
  • Willingness to be hands-on and travel for launch site campaigns and support off-site operations.
