We invite applications for a position in experimental space plasma physics, with an emphasis on flight instruments for particle measurements on planetary and magnetospheric missions.

The selected candidate will join the successful research group Solar System Physics and Space Technology programme (SSPT) at IRF, which conducts active research on the solar system by developing particle instruments for planetary missions, analyzing data, and performing computer simulations.

Tasks

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • development of ion, electron, and Energetic Neutral Atom analyzers for the energy range from eV to tens of keV for space missions;
  • science operations of space instruments;
  • scientific data analysis;
  • publication of research articles.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in space plasma physics.

The position requires:

  • experience in the development of flight instruments for particle measurements as well as hardware integration;
  • experience with calibration facilities and calibration data analysis;
  • proven experience working on space projects during phases B and C;
  • demonstrated success in securing independent research funding;
  • Experience in the analysis of space particle data and operation of space instruments is considered a merit.

The successful candidate should be able to work independently. As we have extensive international collaborations, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential. You will be part of a dynamic, close-knit group of engineers and scientists specializing in building space hardware and conducting cutting-edge research in solar system physics.
