Thermal Analysis Engineer
RINA
Rome, Italy
Mission
We are looking for a Thermal Analysis Engineer to support defense-sector programs in Rome. The selected candidate will focus on the analysis and development of thermal solutions for complex assemblies, ensuring compliance with military standards and project requirements.
Activities
- Plan and perform steady-state and transient thermal analyses on complex mechanical assemblies (e.g., shelters, racks, integrated units).
- Define thermal requirements and specifications, boundary conditions, load cases, and acceptance criteria.
- Build, calibrate, and validate thermal models (e.g., conduction, convection-forced/natural, radiation) using one of the following software Ansys Suite, FloTHERM, or FloEFD.
- Propose and assess thermal mitigation solutions (e.g., heat sinks, TIMs, ventilation/airflow strategies, insulation).
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support environmental qualification activities in accordance with applicable MIL standards.
- Document results, assumptions, and recommendations; support design reviews and the implementation of approved changes.
Main Responsibilities
- Execute and report thermal simulations for complex assemblies.
- Define technical specifications and acceptance criteria related to thermal performance and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to military environmental standards (MIL) relevant to thermal performance.
- Use Ansys Suite, FloTHERM, or FloEFD for model setup, meshing (thermal), solution, and post-processing.
- Provide clear, decision-oriented documentation and participate in design reviews.
- Coordinate with design teams to implement thermal recommendations into CAD and product baselines.
Expertise
- Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in thermal analysis and thermomechanical solution development for complex assemblies.
- Knowledge of MIL standards applicable to environmental qualification in the defense domain.
- Proficiency in at least one simulation software: Ansys Suite, FloTHERM, or FloEFD.
- Familiarity with PLM systems (e.g., Windchill) and CAD tools (CREO, CATIA) is considered a plus.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to communicate technical results to nonspecialists.
