Mechanical Engineering Team Lead

In this role, you will be responsible for the mechanical design and simulation of our spacecraft electric propulsion systems while providing technical guidance and support to the mechanical engineering team. You will ensure high-quality mechanical designs and drive continuous improvement across the engineering function.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise the mechanical engineering team, overseeing day-to-day activities, guiding development, and help with the definition of the product roadmap.
- Conduct annual check-ins with team members, set individual goals, and manage budgetary responsibilities for the team.
- Optimize resource utilization, maintain a safe work environment, and drive continuous process and performance improvements.
- Perform structural and thermal simulations for spacecraft electric propulsion systems and their components.
- Develop mechanical designs from baseline requirements through verification and qualification of subassemblies.
- Create CAD models of new concepts and prepare production-quality engineering drawings in accordance with GD&T standards.
- Support the testing team with test planning, execution, and interpretation of results.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to define parts procurement specifications and inspection requirements.
- Provide technical support to customers during system integration to ensure seamless mechanical compatibility.
- Document all technical work in version-controlled systems.
- Prepare design presentations and process descriptions, including defining requirements for final production.
Your profile
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven ability to independently develop mechanical designs; a portfolio demonstrating relevant work is appreciated.
- Experience in machine or vehicle design, preferably within the aerospace, automotive, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing and prototyping methods, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Solid experience in applying GD&T drafting standards.
- Proficiency in mechanical modeling tools, with FEMAP/NASTRAN preferred.
- Experience with thermal simulation tools, ideally THERMICA.
- Familiarity with aerospace, high-vacuum, and/or high-voltage hardware is considered an advantage.
- Proactive, structured, and motivated, with the ability to manage complex technical challenges effectively while fostering collaboration within the team.
